Please create a github action to unambiguously demonstrate the installation procedure on each major operating system rather than relying on written documentation aimed at humans?

Done: the repo now uses GitHub Actions — .github/workflows/tests.yml checks out the repo, sets up Python 3.9–3.12, runs pip install -r requirements.txt and then pytest/flake8 on every push and PR, so the install procedure is demonstrated automatically (and .travis.yml has been removed). The matrix currently runs on ubuntu-latest; adding macos-latest/windows-latest would cover the 'each major OS' wording, which can be a small follow-up. Closing as resolved.
