Ledger SQL Server - Demo - Why need azure storgae Accont?

At Ledger SQL Server - Demo
In setup section > Azure Storage Account, indicated "Create a new Azure Storage Account ......"
I did create and followed all instructions, run the application using my localsql 2022 worked like a charm, I ended the demo until the end and did not understand why this step is here!! what this storage account does?

The Azure storage account in SQL Server Ledger stores transaction hashes/digests immutably and externally to the database, ensuring no one can retroactively alter data without breaking the cryptographic chain.

Why Necessary?

• In Ledger tables (updatable or append-only), each INSERT/UPDATE generates a hash forming a periodic database summary.
• This summary auto-uploads to an Azure container (e.g., sqldbledgerdigests) with immutability policy enabled.
• Enables auditing via sys.sp_verify_database_ledger() to prove full integrity, critical for regulated sectors like finance.

In Local Demo

Even on local SQL Server 2022, it simulates the full production flow (as in Azure SQL), prepping for real digest uploads. Without it, Ledger runs locally but lacks external verification—that's why the demo requires creation!

Thanks for your explanation and as I am new to those concepts, how can I check/validate, what I mean how/where

• I can see the periodic database summary.
• uto-uploads to an Azure container (e.g., sqldbledgerdigests) is done. After running the demo, I checked the SA but nothing was there
