[Vite 8] Error when importing package with $ symbol

Related to #21885

We maintain an internal npm package that uses $ as part of the import paths. In Vite 7 this works fine.

After vite dev in Vite 8 I get the following error:

TypeError: Error during dependency optimization:

Cannot destructure property 'exportsData' of 'depForEntryFileName[chunk.fileName]' as it is undefined.

P.S: I figured out that the cause is the import with the $ because I changed the node.js file to throw a more specific error:

					const dep = depForEntryFileName[chunk.fileName];
					
					if (!dep) {
						throw new Error(`Internal error: could not find dep info for entry chunk with fileName ${chunk.fileName}`);
					}

					const { exportsData, file, id, ...info } = dep;

I think that something like this could help users find these issues easier.

• Run npm run install and npm run dev.
• The above log is immediatly printed to console and vite exits

I had the same error on v8.0.6, but the cause was an import with different casing:

import Pencil from '@lucide/svelte/icons/Pencil' // Crash in dev
import Pencil from '@lucide/svelte/icons/pencil' // Works correctly

I find this by putting some console logs inside node_modules/vite/dist/node/chunks/node.js:31468:14 and watching which chunk.fileName was the one which returned undefined from depForEntryFileName.

The strange part for me came from the fact that vite was able to build without issues, it just failed in the dev optimiazion.

I guess that vite optimized the dep correctly in a prior version, then i upgraded while vite kept using the cached version and the problem started to manifest itself when i cleaned the cache.

I'm not sure though, while swapping versions to figure out which one had a regression i managed to make it work sometimes, but not reliably enough to create a reproduction.
