Summary

This is the BotPixel half of BotHarness/DeepSeekBot#1238. Each hair piece (bangs, left side, right side, back) can now be a Human-drawn Custom Part that starts from the built-in style currently worn.

New Custom Part slots: bangs, leftSideHair, rightSideHair, backHair.

  • Each slot uses a 32×32 canvas in tile coordinates and only the front layer.
  • A drawn piece replaces the built-in piece, which stays saved underneath and comes back when the part is taken off (withCustomPart(recipe, slot, undefined)).

Live hair cells

  • In a hair part, a hairColor cell at tone 0 is live hair. It joins the same mask, shading, outline, per-side color and band pipeline as built-in hair, so it looks and recolors exactly like built-in hair.
  • Any other cell shows its own color over the shading, for pins, streaks or hand shading.

Starting from the current style

  • hairPieceStart(recipe, slot) flattens the worn built-in piece for this recipe in the front pose. Back hair ties become literal shirt-colored cells.
  • If the slot already wears a drawn piece, it returns that piece instead.
  • An unchanged flattened copy renders identically.

Turns and hiding

  • Drawn hair shifts with the head through turns, like built-in hair.
  • It is hidden under a helmet or hood and on a flower.

Recipes

  • Embedded parts use the keys CUSTOM_PART_KEYS: headpiece, bangsPart, leftSideHairPart, rightSideHairPart, backHairPart.
  • Asset version 3 now means "wears at least one Custom Part", and each key must hold a part of its own slot. A version 3 recipe with only a headpiece is unchanged.
  • withCustomPart and wornPart generalise withHeadpiece, which stays.

The version goes to 0.6.0.

Verification

  • pnpm verify passes: format, lint, typecheck and 76 tests.
  • Every existing golden fixture is unchanged, including the 0.5.0 custom-part-golden.json.
  • New hair-part.test.ts:
    • wearing the flattened copy of every slot renders identically to the built-in hair, for every bangs, side and back style, both hair lengths, and a split left/right side;
    • per-side hair colors still work with drawn side pieces;
    • re-opening a worn piece starts from it;
    • reshaping, recoloring with the hair, and literal cells keeping their color;
    • helmet, hood and flower hiding;
    • turns and the speech mouth layers;
    • taking a piece off restores the built-in one;
    • validation (hair slots reject back-layer cells, the key/slot match is enforced, and version 3 needs a part).
  • Visual check at 4× in front and both turns:
    • a built-in bob next to its flattened copy (identical);
    • the copy with a reshaped fringe, a top tuft and a fixed-color pin;
    • a longer left side piece;
    • a pink recolor;
    • the goblin species.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Customize bangs, either side of the hair, or back hair with custom parts while retaining the built-in hairstyle as a starting point.
    • Hair pieces follow turns and respect visibility rules for helmets, hoods, and flower forms.
    • Added helpers for applying and retrieving custom parts across supported recipe slots.
    • Recipes with custom parts use asset version 3; earlier recipes continue to render unchanged.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance on customizing hair pieces and coloring their cells.

Bangs, left and right side hair and back hair each take a Custom Part
that replaces the built-in piece while it stays saved. A hairColor cell
at tone 0 is live hair, shaded like built-in hair, so hairPieceStart
flattens the worn piece (with its ties) and an unchanged copy renders
identically. withCustomPart and wornPart generalise the headpiece
helpers; asset version 3 means wearing at least one Custom Part.

Copied back hair can shift away from its built-in position during turns for some styles. Correct the style-dependent offset and add a positional turn test.

Assert the rendered back-hair marker for turn placement.

The current assertion only checks that each figure is non-empty. A literal marker at (5,27) is visible after layering and distinguishes the offsets for turn 14: it appears at x + s = 6 in the current code and at x + b = 4 after the style-aware correction.

Strengthen the turn-placement test by asserting a distinctive rendered back-hair
marker at the expected coordinate for turn 14. In the “turns drawn hair with the
head and keeps every speech mouth” test, add a custom marker to the backHair
front layer and verify it appears at (4, 27), not (6, 27), using a yaw-aware
cell lookup; retain the existing non-empty and mouth assertions.

Drawn back hair now shifts by the back-hair offset when that is how the
built-in style it replaces turns (bob, long, afro, hime, wavy, wolf,
ahoge), and by the head shift for tied styles. Ties stay on the head
shift. A new test checks an unchanged copy against the built-in piece in
every turn for every bangs, side and back style; wolf's tile-fixed notch
pattern is the one exception.
