chore: drop two lines of small grey text - #23
Conversation
The copy button carried "Your settings, as props — only what you changed", and the colour picker carried "currentColor is passed to the engine as-is — it cannot be edited here". Both restate something visible one line away. The snippet IS the snippet. And the field already shows whatever value it holds, verbatim — a smaller grey copy of that fact adds no information a reader does not already have, and it sat between the controls and the button they were about to press. Text that repeats what is on screen is the text people learn to skip, which is exactly the wrong place to put something. Removing the passthrough NOTE removed the only thing that stopped a design-system token from being pasted into the picker, and that was worth catching: the field used to REFUSE any value it could not parse, so `var(--brand)`, `oklch(...)` and `color-mix(...)` did nothing — the control was narrower than the component it configures, and the engine takes all three. Unparseable values now pass through as typed. That creates the risk the note was implicitly guarding against — committing half a token — so the distinction is explicit and tested: a real CSS colour value closes what it opens, so `var(--brand)` is committed and `var(--bra` stays a draft. The heuristic is documented as one, including what it would mis-classify. The test that asserted the note existed now asserts the BEHAVIOUR instead: the value is shown exactly as given, and copied exactly as given, so the reference survives the round trip. Asserting a piece of copy is how that copy gets protected after the reason for it has gone. 250 tests (was 249), oxlint 0, registry ok, both changelog ledgers.

Priority: ⬇️ Low Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~12 minutes Change: Bug fix Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to An unfinished color function name can replace the previous valid color and remain after blur. The impact is localized and recoverable by editing the value; merging carries this bounded input-handling risk. Security Architecture ReviewSecurity architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to The newly accepted color text is inserted into copied application code without string escaping. Crafted input can therefore become a JavaScript expression when someone incorporates and runs the copied snippet. The demonstrated path requires user interaction and downstream execution; it does not execute the text in the playground itself. Retained concerns

Keep incomplete function names as drafts.
Starting from a valid colour, entering var passes looksLikeCompleteCss and schedules commit("var"). Blurring clears the draft without restoring the previous colour, so the invalid value can remain in the component state. Add a regression test that checks the committed or copied colour remains unchanged for both var and var(--bra. Checking text().value alone cannot distinguish a draft from a committed value.

Why
Two captions restated something already visible one line away:
The snippet is the snippet. And the field already shows whatever value it holds,
verbatim. A smaller grey copy of a fact the reader can see adds nothing, and it sat between
the controls and the button they were about to press.
Change outline
Both removed, with their CSS and their two message keys.
Removing the passthrough note removed the only thing stopping a design-system token from
being pasted into the picker — and that was worth catching. The field used to refuse
any value it could not parse, so
var(--brand),oklch(...)andcolor-mix(...)didnothing. The control was narrower than the component it configures, while the engine takes
all three. Unparseable values now pass through as typed.
Special things to note
if.implicitly guarding against — committing half a token — so the distinction is explicit and
tested: a real CSS colour value closes what it opens, so
var(--brand)is committed andvar(--brastays a draft. The heuristic is documented as one, including what it wouldmis-classify.
