I’m currently working with the eICU database and need to identify sepsis patients according to Sepsis-3 criteria. Could you provide details on any available codes or tables that can help specify sepsis cases based on Sepsis-3 guidelines?
I found the ricu R package, which includes functions to identify Sepsis-3 patients across various ICU databases, including eICU. However, this package relies on fluid sampling data, which appears to be incomplete in the eICU dataset. I noticed that one study (1) defined Sepsis-3 as the concurrent use of multiple antibiotics, addressing this data gap. There are several studies using eICU data to study Sepsis-3 patients, but they often include a larger cohort of sepsis cases than the number of available fluid samples, and they typically lack code or detailed explanations for their methods.
