feat(solid): Solid 2 adapter at @tanstack/charts/solid/solid2
Solid 2 is in release candidate (solid-js@2.0.0-rc.19+), and this adds a Solid 2 build of the Solid adapter next to the existing one.
Where it lives is open for discussion. We weren't sure where Solid 2 support should go in this repo. Charts releases every adapter in one fixed version group and has no pre-release branch, so the pattern we use in the other TanStack libraries (a solid-v2-pre branch with changeset pre enter) doesn't fit well here. For now it's a solid2 subpath on main, which ships without touching Solid 1 users. Other options are fine with us if you prefer them:
moving @tanstack/solid-charts out of the fixed group and giving it a Solid 2 major, or
a pre-release branch like the other libraries.
What's in it
packages/solid-charts/src/solid2/ holds the Solid 2 port of Chart. It has the same props, the same exports and the same types. The subpath is exported as:
@tanstack/solid-charts/solid2
@tanstack/charts/solid/solid2, through the existing unified-package mapping
The Solid 1 adapter (@tanstack/charts/solid) is untouched.
Peers:
solid-js becomes ^1.8 || >=2.0.0-rc.19 <3.0.0.
@solidjs/web is added as an optional peer, only needed for the Solid 2 entry.
Port notes:
Props flow through a split createEffect(options, next => adapter.update(next)).
The host mounts in onSettled.
The tooltip-target signal uses ownedWrite, because the host writes it from its own events.
The initial options read is untracked.
context.dismiss is now a stable function, so onClick={tooltip.dismiss} doesn't trip Solid 2's strict-read warning.
Types use Element from solid-js and JSX.CSSProperties from @solidjs/web.
Toolchain
The workspace stays on Solid 1. The Solid 2 runtime and compiler live in a private @charts-internal/solid-2-compat package, mirroring how react-18-compat holds React 18. It pins solid-js/@solidjs/web2.0.0-rc.19 and @solidjs/vite-plugin3.0.0-next.52.
scripts/solid-2-compat.mjs provides two helpers:
a small Vite resolver that points solid-js/@solidjs/web imports from src/solid2 at the compat package
a loader for the Solid 2 Vite plugin
Wiring:
vitest.solid2.config.ts and vitest.solid2-ssr.config.ts run the new test-solid2 and test-solid2-ssr targets. Both are added to test-unit, ci and ci-distributed.
tsconfig.solid2.json typechecks src/solid2 against Solid 2 types. The root tsconfig excludes it, and the typecheck target runs both passes.
check-framework-adapters.mjs builds dist/solid2 (JS and declarations) alongside the Solid 1 build.
Small contract updates:
the public-callback classification gets the Solid 2 renderTooltipBody entry
exports.test.ts lists the new subpath among the specialised loaders
workspace-packages.test.mjs lists the compat package
the docs pages are updated (adapter guide section, installation peers, reference index)
Tests
Solid 2 DOM tests cover hydration in place (server markup is claimed, then updated and cleaned up), mount, update and cleanup, and a pinned tooltip body with a nested chart.
A Solid 2 SSR test checks server rendering. The Solid 1 tests are unchanged and pass.
vitest.solid2.config.ts passes solid: { hydratable: true }, the same as the Solid 1 config, because the Solid vite plugin defaults to non-hydratable output under vitest.
Local runs:
Pass: tsc (both passes), all four Solid test configs, check-framework-adapters.mjs, unified core artifact assembly, check-docs.mjs, measure-bundles.mjs --check and prettier --check.
Fail on main too in my environment: check-release-packages.mjs and build-release-artifacts.mjs, both with react/jsx-runtime named-export errors in the React packed consumer. This PR doesn't cause them.
Added a Solid 2 adapter for charts, available through a dedicated import path. It supports chart props, custom tooltip content, and exported chart types.
Added installation guidance and documented Solid 2 compatibility requirements.
Adds `@tanstack/charts/solid/solid2` (and `@tanstack/solid-charts/solid2`),
a Solid 2 port of the Solid adapter with the same props and types. The
Solid 1 adapter at `@tanstack/charts/solid` is unchanged.
The Solid 2 runtime and compiler live in the private
`@charts-internal/solid-2-compat` package, mirroring react-18-compat, so the
workspace toolchain stays on Solid 1. New test-solid2 and test-solid2-ssr
targets, a second typecheck pass, and the adapter build cover the entry.

Summary
Adapter API and rendering packages/solid-charts/src/solid2/*
Adds the Chart component and its exported prop and context types. It manages SVG rendering, supports custom and default tooltip bodies, and includes tests for SSR, hydration, reactive updates, cleanup, and tooltip composition.
Adds Solid 2 package exports and peer ranges, a compatibility package and runtime resolver, and build output for the Solid 2 entry. The callback inventory and release inputs include the new adapter.
Typecheck and test integration packages/solid-charts/tsconfig.solid2.json, tsconfig.json, vitest.solid-ssr.config.ts, vitest.solid2*.config.ts, project.json, nx.json, scripts/workspace-packages.test.mjs
Adds Solid 2 typecheck and Vitest configurations. Adds the Solid 2 test targets to unit tests and CI, configures their cache inputs, and includes the compatibility package in the workspace package check.
Documents Solid 2 installation, imports, types, and adapter behavior in both documentation trees. Updates the import references and declares minor releases for both packages.

Publish Solid 2 source for the solid condition.
scripts/check-framework-adapters.mjs:141 calls solid2() without SSR or hydration options. In Vite library mode, @solidjs/vite-plugin@3.0.0-next.52 therefore emits non-hydratable DOM code. The published solid condition points to that same file, so Solid SSR consumers can hit a client-only API error and cannot hydrate server markup. The tests avoid this path by compiling source with explicit options.
Publish src/solid2 for the solid condition and keep the compiled file only as the documented import fallback. Apply the same correction to @tanstack/charts/solid/solid2.

Thanks Ryan, the separate Solid 2 entry and the hydration and nested-tooltip tests make the proposal easy to review.
AI review notes:
There is a frozen-lockfile blocker at 0593e6f. I checked the exact root/core manifests and lockfile in a two-project metadata fixture with pnpm install --lockfile-only --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts --ignore-pnpmfile. Supply-chain validation passed, then pnpm returned ERR_PNPM_OUTDATED_LOCKFILE for packages/charts-core/package.json:
The core importer is missing @solidjs/web with >=2.0.0-rc.19 <3.0.0.
Its solid-js specifier remains >=1.8, while the manifest now uses ^1.8 || >=2.0.0-rc.19 <3.0.0.
Could you regenerate the lockfile with the updated manifests and verify a full frozen install? This check was metadata-only, not a full adapter build or runtime test. The entry-point/release arrangement is still an open maintainer decision, as you noted in the PR.
