fix: preserve metadata ownership when hydrating element roots - #108
The owner-document change needs the claim-release and range-scoping fixes in this commit: without them, retries duplicate titles and sibling boundaries can claim each other's inline metadata.
Full suite: 186 files and 2,007 tests passed, 91 skipped; types, build verification, and all 38 size gates passed. Source/built DOM-client gzip is 25,102/25,084 B; server is unchanged at 8,975/8,974 B. Only the hydration-disabled entry needs a measured 28/28 B allowance, reaching 22,632/22,629 B.
Change outline
Reproduce with an Element root whose title/meta are already in head, followed by an unresolved lazy child outside Suspense; resolve it and update the title. The original implementation duplicates the metadata and leaves document.title stale. A second reproduction renders two adjacent resolved boundaries with inline title/meta and suspends only the first during client hydration; the second must not adopt the first boundary's nodes.
The ownership checks are in packages/redact/src/dom/document-metadata.ts:14, packages/redact/src/dom/features/hydration/full.ts:79, and packages/redact/src/dom/features/hydration/full.ts:140.
hydrateRoot(element, tree)
- metadata only belongs to Document roots+ metadata belongs to the container's owning document+ stylesheet, portal, SVG and itemProp exclusions stay intact
claim(metadata)
- release only on checkpoint rollback+ release on checkpoint rollback or failed preparation
adopt(inlineMetadata)
- search the host parent's whole child list+ search from the active cursor through its boundary end
regressions
eager and unresolved-lazy children keep their original DOM
title/meta keep their identity and update in head
root suspension resolves or is superseded without duplicate claims
sibling boundaries hydrate independently without stealing metadata
Improved metadata hydration in Element roots and across Suspense boundaries, preserving existing title, description, and DOM nodes while keeping interactive elements functional.
Ensured abandoned hydration does not prevent metadata from being adopted or updated during later renders.
Limited inline metadata searches to the active Suspense range.
Element-root metadata hydration now resolves the document head from an element container. Hydration searches for inline metadata within the active cursor boundary and releases claimed nodes after commit failure. New tests cover metadata ownership, DOM identity, lazy resolution, and root replacement.

Summary
Resolve and claim document metadata packages/redact/src/dom/document-metadata.ts, packages/redact/src/dom/features/hydration/full.ts
Metadata lookup resolves an element container’s document head and excludes stylesheet links. Hydration searches within the cursor boundary and releases claimed nodes on commit failure.
Hydration validation and size allowance tests/element-root-metadata.test.tsx, tests/metadata-hydration-ownership.test.tsx, tests/hydration-attribute-probes.test.tsx, scripts/size-check.mjs, .changeset/element-root-metadata.md
Tests check metadata and DOM-node identity across hydration cases. The size check adds a 28-byte allowance, and the changeset records the patch.
Hydrating an Element root into a page that already has its own head title can claim that title instead of the root's inline title, causing a recoverable hydration mismatch. The case is narrow and recoverable, so it can be fixed in a follow-up or before merge at low cost.

For an Element root, documentMetadataParent makes findMetadata search the owning document head first. Since titles have no key attributes, <title>Site</title> can be claimed for an inline <title>Widget</title>. Text hydration then reports a recoverable mismatch, and the inline title remains unclaimed.
Use the active inline cursor before the document-head fallback for Element roots. Keep the existing head-first behavior for Document roots.

Why the change
Preserve server metadata and body DOM when an Element-root hydration attempt suspends or adopts inline metadata from sibling Suspense boundaries.
