Updates @vitejs/plugin-react to 6.1.2

Release notes

Sourced from @vitejs/plugin-react's releases.

plugin-react@6.1.2

Fix HMR for compound components (#1484)

Adding or removing a component from a compound component was not handled, creating stale updates. Doing this now triggers hmr invalidate on the file and propagates the invalidation to importers.

Fix compiler.logDiagnostics option not working (#1483)

With oxc-transform-react >= 0.148, the logDiagnostics was not working. This version fixes it and requires oxc-transform-react >= 0.152 as a peer dependency if you are using the compiler option. compiler.logDiagnostics option is now deprecated and should be swapped for the builtin compiler.reportDiagnostics.

Disable refresh for non-jsx with compiler enabled (fix #1478) (#1485)

When the compiler was enabled, TS files could trigger fast refresh which would cause runtime errors. The logic now follows what the builtin oxc plugin in Vite does.

6.1.2 (2026-10-05)

Fix HMR for compound components (#1484)

Adding or removing a component from a compound component was not handled, creating stale updates. Doing this now triggers hmr invalidate on the file and propagates the invalidation to importers.

Fix compiler.logDiagnostics option not working (#1483)

When the compiler was enabled, TS files could trigger fast refresh which would cause runtime errors. The logic now follows what the builtin oxc plugin in Vite does.

6.1.1 (2026-08-28)

Add compiler.logDiagnostics option

Recoverable React Compiler diagnostics are no longer logged by default. Set compiler.logDiagnostics to true to log them through Vite. Fatal diagnostics are always logged and fail the transform.

Respect environment sourcemap option for React Compiler transform when builder.sharedPlugins is enabled (#1439)

The React Compiler transform was using the top-level sourcemap option instead of the environment sourcemap option. This caused a problem when the experimental builder.sharedPlugins was enabled.

6.1.0 (2026-08-19)

Add experimental native React Compiler support (#1419)

Add experimental native React Compiler support.

You can use it by installing oxc-transform-react and enabling it via the compiler option:

npm install -D oxc-transform-react
import { defineConfig } from 'vite'
import react from '@vitejs/plugin-react'
export default defineConfig({
plugins: [
react({ compiler: true })
]
})

6.0.5 (2026-07-30)

Fixed the react compiler preset filter to be linear (#1353)

The improved filter in v6.0.3 was non-linear and caused a performance regression (#1349). The filter was changed to be linear to avoid that.

React 19.2.6 is pinned in root node_modules (used by @ably/cli), but the
react-web-cli devDependencies were bumped to 19.3.1 (installed locally).
The old aliases forced the test environment to use the root's 19.2.6 while
@testing-library/react resolved react-dom@19.3.1 from the local package —
two React instances, causing useState to see a null dispatcher.

Pointing the aliases to the package's own node_modules ensures react and
react-dom are the same version (19.3.1) in tests.

Dependabot Fix Assessment

Package: Group bump across packages/react-web-cli (12 devDependencies)
Scope: devDependencies only
Workspace: packages/react-web-cli

What changed upstream

  • react: ^19.2.x → ^19.3.1
  • react-dom: ^19.2.x → ^19.3.1
  • @testing-library/react: ^16.x → ^16.3.3
  • @vitejs/plugin-react: bumped
  • vitest, vite, tsup, @types/react, @types/react-dom, lucide-react, @vitest/ui, @testing-library/jest-dom: bumped

Root cause

The pnpm workspace has two React versions:

  • react@19.2.6 / react-dom@19.2.6 in the root node_modules (pinned by the @ably/cli package)
  • react@19.3.1 / react-dom@19.3.1 in packages/react-web-cli/node_modules (bumped by Dependabot)

vitest.config.ts had explicit aliases pointing react and react-dom at the root node_modules (the 19.2.6 copies). This worked before because both locations were on 19.2.x. After the bump, @testing-library/react resolved react-dom@19.3.1 from the package-local node_modules while the component's useState used the aliased react@19.2.6 — two different React instances, causing the classic TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'useState') (React's hook dispatcher is null when the renderers don't share the same React copy).

What was fixed

  • packages/react-web-cli/vitest.config.ts: Changed the react and react-dom path aliases from ../../node_modules/react (root) to node_modules/react (package-local), so the test environment uses react@19.3.1 + react-dom@19.3.1 consistently — a single React instance.

Migration concerns checked

  • Peer dependencies: OK — react-web-cli declares react and react-dom as peerDeps (>=17.0.0), no conflict
  • Type changes: OK — @types/react and @types/react-dom bumped in sync with runtime versions
  • Config files: OK — no config option changes needed
  • Module format: OK — no ESM/CJS changes
  • React compatibility: Fixed — see above
  • Monorepo impact: Root package keeps react@19.2.6; only react-web-cli tests were affected

Verification

  • Build: ✅ (no build step in test path)
  • Lint: ✅ (0 errors, 6 pre-existing warnings for skipped tests)
  • Unit tests: ✅ (57 passed, 6 skipped — same as before)
  • Web CLI tests: ✅ (all 4 test files pass)

Notes for reviewer

The E2E failures in the CI logs appear to be the same root cause (all failing with this React version mismatch). The Web CLI E2E Tests failure shown is a rate-limit test that starts the vite dev server — it will also benefit from the fixed vitest config. No production code was changed; only the test configuration.
