Follow-up to #415. CodeRabbit's review there suggested documenting that remembered project roots are imported from sessions.db only once, and adding a test with an older executable still writing that file.

Change

  • README, the docs-site MCP page and a code comment now say that the first session search imports remembered roots once. Roots an older executable records in sessions.db after that stay in the older file.
  • The same pages now limit "cached passages from unavailable transcripts remain only in the older store" to transcripts that were unavailable when the new store was first built. Since fix(sessions): keep indexed sessions while their store cannot be read #416, transcripts that become unreadable later keep their passages in sessions-v2.db.
  • New test in __tests__/sessions-storage.test.ts. An older writer adds a root after sessions-v2.db exists. Reopening the new store doesn't import that root and leaves sessions.db byte-identical. A root the new store sees for itself (from git worktree list) is remembered there.

No behavior changes. The new test pins current behavior, so it also passes on the base.

Checks

Full Vitest suite (Node 24): 671 files, 8,588 passed, 39 skipped.

README rows checked: the session-storage paragraph under "About this fork" is updated. The tools table and numbers are unchanged. No CHANGELOG entry, since behavior is unchanged.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Clarified that the first session search imports remembered roots from the legacy store once. Roots added later by older versions remain in that store.
    • Explained that cached passages for unavailable transcripts remain in the legacy store, while session mentions in code answers resume after the new store is populated.
    • Confirmed that the graph index and project-local scope are unchanged.
  • Tests
    • Added coverage for one-time root imports, later roots recorded by older versions, and independent root storage.

Pin the behavior with a test: a root an older executable records in sessions.db after sessions-v2.db exists is not imported, the older file stays untouched, and a root the new store sees itself is remembered there.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change documents and tests that the current session store imports remembered roots from sessions.db once. Later roots written by older executables remain in the legacy store and are not imported into the current store. The README also describes transcript reindexing and session-mention behavior.

One-time import contract
__tests__/sessions-storage.test.ts, src/sessions/index.ts, README.md, site/src/content/docs/reference/mcp-server.md
The test verifies that later roots written by an older executable are not imported and that reopening does not alter the legacy database. Comments and documentation describe the one-time import. The README also notes that passages from transcripts unavailable during the new store’s initial build remain only in the legacy store.
