Brings upstream/main from 041db101 to c19f0284 into fork/consolidated: four upstream fixes (colbymchenry#2528 to colbymchenry#2531). Merge commit, not squash, so upstream's history stays a parent.

What came in, and where it lives in the fork

Upstream Change In the fork
colbymchenry#2528 An import in a Vue, Svelte or Astro component, and an import of a scoped package that a tsconfig path or workspace package maps to a file, link the module file; sync retries failed imports by the specifier that now resolves Resolver side was already native (is_js_path_import_ref covers svelte/vue/astro and scoped paths). Ported the sync half into src/codegraph.ts (upstream put it in src/index.ts, which the fork split) and the new QueryBuilder lookups
colbymchenry#2529 Sync moves an import to an added file that outranks the one it found (./button: button.vue then button.ts) src/resolution/module-importers.ts and src/codegraph.ts, with ReferenceResolver.resolveModuleFile
colbymchenry#2530 A smart pointer's held class that lacks a method gets no edge only when its bases are all known One condition in codegraph-kernel/src/resolve/cpp_receivers.rs: the bases-known check now applies to held types too
colbymchenry#2531 A declaration inside a string literal is not a receiver's declaration Nothing to port: the fork's AST-first receiver lookup already passes upstream's new tests on ba4f7e38 (run on the base build). The TS files name-matcher.ts and cpp-raw-strings.ts stay deleted

Deliberate differences from upstream

  • __tests__/cpp-smart-pointer-receiver.test.ts: for a held class with an unlinked base, upstream's test expects the call to fall back to a guess by method name. The fork's fallback guesses no method for a receiver whose class it knows, so the call stays unresolved, as the fork's existing test for a reference expects in cpp-declared-type-receiver.test.ts. The new test expects [] and says why. The fix(cpp): a smart pointer's held class lacking a method gets no edge only when its bases are known colbymchenry/codegraph#2530 change therefore does not change this fixture's result on the fork; it keeps the held and non-held paths on one rule.
  • CHANGELOG.md: the fork's [Unreleased] already lists upstream's earlier entries in a different order, so a plain merge duplicated 39 of them. Kept the fork's file and applied upstream's changes by hand: two new import entries and the reworded smart-pointer entry, which now says an unlinked base leaves the call unlinked. Upstream's string-literal entry is left out because the fork already satisfied it.

Checks

  • Full local suite on 048a2418: 700 files, 8926 passed, 39 skipped, 0 failed (vitest run, kernel and viewer rebuilt first; clippy -D warnings clean).
  • The four new or changed upstream test files pass on the fork: sfc-alias-module-imports, sync-module-importers (12), cpp-string-literal-declarations (3), cpp-smart-pointer-receiver (9).
  • README rows checked: the merge point in the "About this fork" paragraph (041db101 to c19f0284). No benchmark row or count moves: nothing here touches indexing speed or memory, and no kernel golden dump changed.

Summary by cubic

Brings upstream main through c19f0284 into fork/consolidated: four fixes (colbymchenry#2528–colbymchenry#2531), merged with a merge commit so upstream history stays a parent. The fork's full suite passes and all four changed upstream tests pass on it.

Deliberate differences from upstream

  • CHANGELOG.md: a plain merge duplicated 39 [Unreleased] entries, so the fork kept its own file and applied upstream's changes by hand — the string-literal entry was dropped because the fork already satisfies fix(cpp): a declaration inside a string literal is not a receiver's declaration colbymchenry/codegraph#2531, and the held-class entry states the call now stays unlinked.
  • cpp-smart-pointer-receiver.test.ts: where upstream's test expects a fallback guess by method name, the fork's fallback guesses no method for a receiver whose class it knows, so the new test expects [] and explains why.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • C++ calls through smart pointers and optionals remain unresolved when the held type’s method or inheritance cannot be determined, avoiding incorrect method matches.
    • Vue, Svelte, and Astro component imports are linked to their imported files, including imports through configured aliases.
    • When a newly added file takes precedence for an extensionless import, the importer is updated to reference it.
    • C++ declarations inside string and character literals do not interfere with receiver detection or method-call resolution.

…ile (colbymchenry#2528)

An import statement's own module reference linked nothing in two cases,
even when its bindings resolved through the file: a Vue, Svelte or Astro
component's import (`isJsPathImportRef` covered only the script languages),
and a bare scoped package that a `tsconfig` path or a workspace package maps
to a project file (`isJsPathSpecifier` excluded `@scope/pkg`). So a barrel or
a side-effect module showed no dependency from those files, and sync's
importer discovery, which follows the module edge into a changed file,
never found them when a barrel they import through was deleted or added.

Both now resolve through `resolveImportPath`, as a script's path import
does; an outside scoped package still names no file. Component imports
written with an extension, which a basename match linked before, now link
through the resolver too. When a sync adds a file, it also retries the
failed imports that now resolve to it but wait under no key its path gives:
a scoped package parked under its last segment (`common` for
`@excalidraw/common`, mapped to `packages/common/src/index.ts`, whose keys
are `src` and `index`), under the module ceiling, and an import of the
importer's own folder or the one above (`.`, `..`), parked under no tail.

…found (colbymchenry#2529)

An import written without an extension that resolved to one file, `./button`
to `button.vue` while `button.ts` was missing, kept that edge and what it
binds when `button.ts` was added beside it, though the resolver now finds
`button.ts` first: sync only retried imports that had failed. A fresh index
links the added file.

When a sync adds a file, the module edges into the files an import of the
same name finds instead (`dir/name.*` under another extension, the folder's
own `dir/name/index.*` or `dir/name/__init__.py`) whose specifier now
resolves to the added file go back to the sweep, and their importers join
the added module's importers with that statement, so the names it binds are
re-resolved too.

…only when its bases are known (colbymchenry#2530)

matchCppHeldTypeCall (colbymchenry#2440) returned null (no edge) for a `->` call on a
`std::unique_ptr`/`std::shared_ptr`/`std::optional` whose held class
lacks the method, unless that class is a class template. colbymchenry#2493 found the
gap in the same rule for raw pointers and values: a base the index can't
link may declare the method. protobuf's `class FlatAllocator : public
decltype(ApplyTypeList<FlatAllocatorImpl>(…))` has no extends edge to
`FlatAllocatorImpl`, and rocksdb's `WritePreparedTxnDB` derives from an
alias each `#if` arm declares differently.

Both paths now share one verdict, cppLacksMethod: no class template, and
cppBasesKnown (every base on the way is linked to a class, or is a library
type). Otherwise the call goes on as before.

…eclaration (colbymchenry#2531)

C++ receiver inference reads back from a call for a line that declares
the receiver, blanking comments (cppCodeOf) but not string literals. Text
inside one was taken for the declaration:

- protobuf's upb generator emits C code from raw strings:
  `GenerateRepeatedSetters(upb::FieldDefPtr field, …)` writes
  `upb_MiniTableField field = $field_init$;` inside an `R"cc( … )cc"`,
then calls `field.ctype()` on its own parameter. The scan found the
template's line first, and the call got no edge (a C struct has no
  methods).
- rocksdb's log messages read as declarations: `"… in WriteBatch handler;
  …"` made `handler` a `WriteBatch`, and `"… remote compaction (…"` gave
`compaction` the type `remote`, so calls fell to guesses by the method's
  name.

New cpp-raw-strings.ts reads a file once, when it holds `R"`, as the
compiler does (comments, string and character literals, raw strings with
their delimiters), and keeps the column ranges each raw string takes per
line. The receiver scan, in the file and its header, blanks those and the
contents of the line's ordinary string and character literals before
cppCodeOf. A character literal holding a quote (`'"'`), a digit separator
(`1'000`) and an `R"(` inside a comment don't hide the code after them.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The changes update C++ receiver resolution and add regression tests for literals and unlinked bases. They extend module-import lookup and sync retries for added files, with tests for component imports, aliases, and import-target precedence. The README updates the stated upstream baseline.

Changes

C++ Resolution

Layer / File(s) Summary
C++ literal declaration regression coverage
__tests__/cpp-string-literal-declarations.test.ts
New tests check that declaration-like text in strings, character literals, and comments does not affect receiver inference.
Smart-pointer receiver fallback
codegraph-kernel/src/resolve/cpp_receivers.rs, __tests__/cpp-smart-pointer-receiver.test.ts, CHANGELOG.md
The missing-member fallback now checks whether owner bases are known for held and non-held receivers. A test covers a held type with an unlinked base. The changelog describes unresolved calls in this case.

Module Import Sync

Layer / File(s) Summary
Module import lookup and resolution
src/db/queries.ts, src/resolution/index.ts
Queries now find module imports by directory and name, expose failed scoped-package and folder imports, and accept resolved module specifiers during retries. ReferenceResolver adds module-file resolution.
Reopen imports when added files take precedence
src/resolution/module-importers.ts
Reference reopening can identify imports that now resolve to added files, recover their references, and include them in importer discovery at the first traversal depth.
Sync retries for added modules
src/codegraph.ts
CodeGraph.sync retries failed scoped-package and folder imports that resolve to added files and passes module resolution into reference reopening.
Import and sync regression coverage
__tests__/sfc-alias-module-imports.test.ts, __tests__/sync-module-importers.test.ts, CHANGELOG.md
Tests cover component imports, a scoped-package alias, and sync behavior when a new file takes precedence for an extensionless import. The changelog describes the import updates.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 9c7db

In a monorepo with different import scopes, sync can leave a valid import unlinked after its target file is added. Resolve the source-scope retry gap before merging unless that limitation is explicitly accepted.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 048a2

No new access or privilege path was identified. An interrupted update can leave dependency information inconsistent after recovery. Wider security exposure has not been established.

Retained concerns

  • Low · reliability · inferred: The new module-precedence transition is not committed as one recoverable unit. Module-edge replacement commits before dependent-edge reopening. Interruption between those steps can leave a pending module reference alongside dependent edges still pointing at the former target. Recovery sweeps pending references, but unchanged indexed files no longer generate the added-file event needed to repeat the dependent reopening. Individual transactions prevent edge/reference loss, but do not contain this mixed-state failure. This extends the pre-existing multi-stage reconciliation model; no resulting access-control bypass is established.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — A source or configuration author can influence which import dependencies the project's graph records. The observed new sink is graph-reference mutation, not command execution or privilege assignment. Downstream use of this graph as a security decision input is not established.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Path values use SQL bindings rather than SQL interpolation. Failed-import queries restrict reference kind and status, while outranking requires resolving the original specifier from its source file to the specific added file before mutation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Synchronization retains mutex and file-lock ownership. Individual edge replacements atomically insert unresolved references, and pending-reference recovery runs independently of new file changes. These controls protect individual mutations but do not make the entire new outranking transition atomic.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Treat module and dependent invalidation as one durable transition, either through a shared transaction or persisted replay work. Validate recovery after interruption at each commit boundary so unchanged-file synchronization can finish the transition.

Use valid C++ for the shadowing fixtures.

Quote redeclares its runner parameter in the outermost function block. Comment does the same at Line 169. C++ prohibits both declarations, so these tests do not establish receiver behavior for valid local shadowing. Put each local declaration and its call in a nested block. (timsong-cpp.github.io)

Review: #486 (review)
Head: 9c7db7d
Reason: Every finding in this review was answered in its inline thread and the threads are resolved. The changelog entry now says an unlinked base leaves the call unlinked (9c7db7d). The shadowing-fixture nitpick and the scoped-import findings concern upstream test and sync code carried verbatim from upstream/main c19f028, so they are not changed here; the reasons are in the threads.
