All notable changes to this plugin will be documented here.

## 2.8.0 — Send images in X Chat

- The guide covers sending an image: `encrypt-media`, `chat_media_upload_initialize` and `chat_media_upload_append` (colon conversation id, `media.write`), `session-encrypt` with `media`, `chat_media_upload_finalize`, then `send_chat_message` (hyphen conversation id).
- The helper install pins `chatxdk<0.6`.
- Tools added to the X connector show up only after reinstalling the plugin; restarting the MCP is not enough.

## 2.7.0 — Scheduled X calls

- Requested `calls.read` and `calls.write` so agents can list, schedule, update, cancel, and RSVP to X calls on `https://api.x.com/mcp`.

### New tools after a connector update

Tools added to the X connector (for example the chat media upload tools) show up only after the user reinstalls the X plugin. Restarting the MCP is not enough. If a documented tool is missing while other X tools work and reconnecting didn't add it, tell them to remove and reinstall the X plugin.

## Other errors

`not-authorized-for-resource` (private account they don't own): stop. Their own timeline/bookmarks: probe current user, retry once with that id.

Not in git with this plugin. Reuse that same `XCHAT_ROOT` on later turns.

Keep `chatxdk` below 0.6: 0.6 replaces the stream calls that `encrypt-media` and `decrypt-media` use. The install line moves an existing venv to the latest 0.5.x.

**Chat PIN only.** Secret-request into `CHAT_PIN`. Never echo it. Never ask them to paste the PIN into the transcript. The helper also reads Grok Bot `box-secrets.json` → `card.CHAT_PIN` if env is empty. Do not ask for anything else (no Bearer token, no password, no juicebox dump). Do not ask for the PIN when a saved key works, and ask the remember question every time you do ask — see [Saved key](#saved-key).

`--user-id` is the numeric X id from `get_users_me`. Do not use the shell’s `$UID` (Unix account id).

MCP owns OAuth (`dm.read` / `dm.write`) and ciphertext. Local `chatxdk` + `xchat_lite.py` own Juicebox unlock, decrypt, encrypt, prepare-keys.

If `add_conversation_keys` returns `UNAUTHORIZED_REQUESTING_USER` or similar: you likely cannot rotate/init keys for that conversation, or the peer is not on XChat — stop and report; do not send ciphertext under an unpublished key.

### Send an image

Same approval rule as text. Needs `media.write`; if the upload tools are missing or 403, that is [X Chat scopes](#x-chat-scopes). The upload tools take the colon conversation id (`AAA:BBB`); every other Chat tool takes the hyphen form (`AAA-BBB`).

1. Page `get_chat_conversation_events` only until you have the latest conversation key change, in `data` or `meta.conversation_key_events` (usually the first page). Get signing keys for those pages' senders, including the key change's sender.
2. `encrypt-media` with those events and keys, `conversation_id`, and `"media": [{"input": "/path/to/photo.jpg"}]`. PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP, at most 5 MiB each, up to 10 images.
3. `chat_media_upload_initialize` with `conversation_id` = `upload_conversation_id` and the image's `total_bytes`. Keep `session_id`, `media_hash_key`, `conversation_id`.
4. `chat_media_upload_append` once per part: `id` = `session_id`, `media` = that part file's base64 (4 MiB or less), its `segment_index`, plus `conversation_id` and `media_hash_key`.
5. `session-encrypt` with the same events and keys, optional caption in `text`, and `media`: the image's `encrypt-media` entry plus its `media_hash_key`. Keep `message_id`.
6. `chat_media_upload_finalize`: `id` = `session_id`, `conversation_id`, `media_hash_key`, `num_parts` as a string (`"2"`), `message_id` (and `ttl_msec` as a string for a disappearing message).
7. `send_chat_message` with step 5's hyphen `id`, `message_id`, `encoded_message_create_event`, `encoded_message_event_signature`. Then delete `upload_dir`.

The whole `/mcp` request is capped at 8 MiB, so never put more than one part in a call. If `session-encrypt` fails on `conversation_key_version` (the key changed), rerun `encrypt-media` and upload again. A new conversation needs its first text message (`prepare`) before an image.
