Maze Puzzle Platform

A full-stack interactive maze puzzle platform built with FastAPI and Next.js, featuring JWT authentication, server-side puzzle validation, real-time gameplay, and a modern React interface.

  • Node.js 18+ and npm
  • Python 3.9+ and pip
  • PostgreSQL 12+ running locally

Local Development Setup

1. Clone and Setup Backend

🔧 Technical Implementation

Backend Architecture

Database Models:

  • User: Authentication with bcrypt password hashing
  • Puzzle: JSONB grid storage with flexible schema
  • Attempt: Complete move tracking with performance metrics

🔐 Security Implementation

🚀 Production Deployment

Production Routing (Cloudflare Worker + Vercel + FastAPI)

Our production stack routes all public traffic through Cloudflare Workers to ensure HTTPS, avoid mixed content, and keep the backend origin private:

  • Browser calls go to https://faithfulstack.com/puzzlegame/...
  • API calls use https://faithfulstack.com/puzzlegame/api/...
  • Cloudflare Worker strips the /puzzlegame/api prefix, normalizes paths to the FastAPI scheme, and proxies to the internal backend origin http://direct.faithfulstack.com:8000
  • FastAPI exposes routes under:
    • /auth/*
    • /api/puzzles/*
    • /api/leaderboard*

Troubleshooting quick reference:

  • Mixed Content error (HTTPS → HTTP): ensure Worker proxies (no 30x) and that the browser calls faithfulstack.com paths only
  • 404 on /puzzlegame/api/puzzles: add the missing /api segment or enable the normalization above; backend expects /api/puzzles
  • Expected status without token on puzzles endpoints is 401 (auth-protected); 200 on /health

🚧 Known Limitations & Future Enhancements

Current Limitations:

  • No real-time multiplayer features
  • Basic admin interface (command-line only)
  • Limited puzzle editor (JSON-based)
  • No mobile app (responsive web only)
