Refs #1104. Thanks @vorburger for the request!

What it does

  • A Mute recording switch in the Audio pane silences the take's own sound, saved with the project.
  • Preview: the recording goes silent (its waveform flattens on the timeline); added voiceover and music keep playing.
  • Export: clips are sent with hasAudio: false, so only the added tracks are mixed. If nothing audible is left (no track, no click sound), the MP4 is written with no audio stream at all.
  • Also exposed to the agent and MCP via setEditorSettings (recordingMuted).

Verified with openscreen export (CLI, same renderer + compositor path), checked with ffprobe on Windows, macOS (arm64) and Linux:

project streams 440 Hz (recording) 880 Hz (music)
unmuted video + audio −18.2 dB —
muted video only — —
muted + music video + audio −62.6 dB (filter leak) −27.1 dB

The results match on all three OSes. Typecheck (app + tests), lint, i18n check and the full unit suite all pass.

Note: the native pipelines always mux AAC, so the empty stream is removed afterwards in the renderer (mediabunny remux, video copied as is, the same way the voiceover mix works). A native "no audio" flag would avoid holding the file in memory on long exports.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a recording mute setting. Muting silences the recording in preview and export while keeping added audio tracks and click sounds available.
    • Recording mute settings are saved with the project and available through AI editing controls.
    • Added localized labels for the new setting.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Exports with no audible content no longer include an audio stream.

A project setting silences the take's own sound in the preview and the
export. Added tracks (voiceover, music) keep playing; when nothing else is
audible the exported MP4 carries no audio stream at all.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The change adds a persisted recording-mute setting, exposes it in audio controls and the AI editor-settings tool, and applies it to preview and native clip audio. Export paths detect silent output and remove its audio stream.

Changes: Recording Audio Mute

Layer / File(s) Summary
Setting, controls, and model access
src/lib/ai-edition/store/editorSettings.ts, src/lib/ai-edition/store/editorSettings.test.ts, src/components/ai-edition/RightPanes.tsx, src/i18n/locales/*/settings.json, electron/ai-edition/editor-settings-tool.ts, electron/ai-edition/editor-settings-tool.test.ts, electron/ai-edition/deep-agent/service.ts
recordingMuted defaults to false and persists as a boolean. The audio pane can change or reset it. The AI editor-settings tool accepts and returns the setting, and locale files add its label.
Preview and native clip audio
src/components/ai-edition/VirtualPreview.tsx, src/components/ai-edition/VirtualPreview.audio.test.ts, src/components/ai-edition/v4/V4Timeline.tsx, src/native/sceneDescription.ts, src/native/sceneDescription.test.ts, src/components/ai-edition/ExportDialog.tsx
Muted recording audio is silenced in preview and clip waveforms. Native clip descriptions and clip lists mark recording audio as absent when muted.
Silent export handling
src/lib/exporter/audioExport.ts, src/lib/exporter/audioExport.test.ts, src/cli/CliExportRunner.tsx, src/components/ai-edition/ExportDialog.tsx
Export code checks whether recording audio, audio tracks, or click sound produce audio. When output is silent, the export paths remove its audio stream; the CLI skips removal when a voiceover path was requested, and GIF exports skip the dialog check.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to b2445

Large silent exports can fail or crash after encoding, and a failed remux write can destroy the completed output. Address bounded-memory processing and safe file replacement before merging.

Avoid buffering the entire silent export.

For a large silent MP4, BufferTarget can exhaust renderer memory after native encoding completes. The export then fails or the renderer can crash. Use a bounded-memory remux or omit the audio stream in the native exporter.
