fix(hud): drop the growth reserve on Linux so the HUD hugs its content - #1501
The HUD grants HUD_GROWTH_RESERVE (120px) beyond its required size on each axis — +240px width, +120px height — as hysteresis against native resizes. On Windows and macOS that overhang is click-through, so it is invisible and harmless. On Linux the HUD is deliberately not click-through (setHudMouseEventsEnabled is skipped when isLinuxHud), and a Wayland compositor treats the whole toplevel as the window's allocation, so any reserve is a transparent rectangle around the bar that swallows desktop clicks.
This makes the Linux window follow what is actually visible instead:
hudGrowthReserve(platform) returns 0 on Linux, so granted equals required.
computeHudWindowSize accepts openStackHeight (the measured stack above the bar) and toastsHeight. Linux passes the measured stack, so the window is the bar plus a tooltip floor while collapsed and the open panel's height while one is open — and it shrinks back when the panel closes. Windows and macOS keep reserving the tallest panel and are unchanged.
Window height now counts the visible toast stack on every platform. The growth reserve used to cover it on Windows/macOS; on Linux, where the window hugs the bar, omitting it cut the toast off.
+toastsHeight also feeds needsResize, so a toast appearing or leaving triggers exactly one resize.
On Linux the fixed min/max size hints from resizable: false are lifted around setBounds, because Mutter otherwise ignores the programmatic resize, and the window starts at the compact bar size instead of the old 820×560 reserve.

Not included: the change is a window-geometry fix on Wayland/X11; the dead zone is only observable against a live compositor.
New: toast height is counted in required/granted; openStackHeight replaces the panel reserve without double-counting a notice; LaunchWindow resizes on bar grow/shrink, grows for an open panel then shrinks back when it closes, and counts a visible toast in the window height then gives the room back.
Full npm run test: all 4963 loadable tests pass. 20 Electron-importing files could not load in this environment because npm install blocked Electron's postinstall binary download (npm 12 allowScripts), unrelated to this change.
Improved launch overlay sizing on Linux so its width tracks the bar more closely and its height adjusts to open panels and notifications, reclaiming space when they close.
Reduced excess space in the collapsed Linux overlay while preserving room for tooltips.
Preserved growth room on macOS and Windows so the overlay can accommodate larger panels and notifications without frequent resizing.

Windows and macOS that overhang is click-through. On Linux the HUD is not

hudGrowthReserve(platform) returns 0 on Linux, and the renderer passes it
into computeHudWindowSize and uses the same value for the shrink threshold,
so granted equals required there while other platforms keep the reserve.

HUD window sizing now uses platform-specific growth reserves and measured stack dimensions. Linux sizing includes tooltip and toast space. Electron applies HUD bounds through a helper that temporarily enables resizing on Linux.
Changes: HUD sizing
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Platform reserve and size calculation src/components/launch/hudGeometry.ts, src/components/launch/hudGeometry.test.ts
hudGrowthReserve returns zero for Linux and the existing reserve for other platforms. computeHudWindowSize accounts for toast height and can use a measured open-stack height instead of popover and notice reserves. Tests cover reserve selection and size calculations.
Measured stack sizing and toast placement src/components/launch/LaunchWindow.tsx, src/components/launch/LaunchWindow.test.tsx
LaunchWindow uses platform-specific sizing inputs and measured stack height for toast placement. Linux tests cover bar width, open-panel sizing, and toast height before and after dismissal.
Platform-specific HUD bounds electron/windows.ts
HUD reclamping and resizing use setHudWindowBounds. On Linux, the helper temporarily enables resizing while applying bounds. The initial size is 600×190 on Linux and 820×560 on other platforms.
The Linux HUD sizing change looks sound, with only documentation drift in code comments that still say popovers never trigger native resizes. Merging is low risk; the comments can be updated alongside or after this change.

Include toast height in Linux window sizing.
When a toast appears above a tall settings panel, it can extend beyond the zero-reserve window and become unreadable. Include the visible toast in the Linux size calculation and resize when its height changes, subject to the screen-height limit.

Exclude closed-panel space from Linux HUD input.
When the panels are closed, the Linux window still reserves their maximum width and height. This transparent area can intercept desktop clicks. Limit the input area or allocation to the visible HUD, while preserving space for panels when they open.

The HUD cannot be click-through on Linux, so every pixel of transparent
window reserve is a dead zone over the desktop. Size the window to the
measured stack instead: the bar alone (plus a floor for portalled
tooltips) while collapsed, and the open panel's measured height while one
is open, shrinking back when it closes.
The window height now also counts the visible toast stack, which the
growth reserve used to cover. Without it, a Linux window that hugs the bar
cuts the toast off. The same height feeds needsResize, so a toast
appearing or leaving costs one resize.
Linux also lifts the fixed min/max size hints (resizable: false) around
setBounds, since Mutter otherwise ignores the resize, and starts at the
compact bar size instead of the old 820x560 reserve.
