Releases melonJS 20.10.0.

  • Changelog: dates the 20.10.0 section (2026-10-20). Both manifests, package.json and .claude-plugin/plugin.json, were already bumped to 20.10.0 when the version opened.
  • Release notes: scripts/release.ts now builds the GitHub release notes from the version's changelog section (Highlights, Added, Fixed) instead of the commit subjects between tags. It falls back to the commit list when a version has no entry, and keeps the contributor sections and the compare link.

What 20.10.0 ships

  • First-use stutters fixed on WebGL and WebGPU (Rendering: stop first-use stutters on WebGL and WebGPU #1754): shaders, pipelines and render targets are prepared when an object is added or during loader.preload(), instead of in the frame that first draws it. The PR also fixes three older bugs: a refused video logging an error every frame, ETC1 textures drawing black on WebGL, and WebGPU rejecting the smallest compressed mip levels.
  • SquishEffect, a squash and stretch shader (Effects: add SquishEffect, a squash and stretch shader #1755): the PR also fixes a stopped Tween running one more step and firing onComplete in the same frame.

Checked locally, the same gate as publish.yml

  • pnpm lint: 0 errors.
  • pnpm -F melonjs dist:publish: passes (clean, lint, build, docs); 320 declaration files checked.
  • npm publish --dry-run: melonjs 20.10.0, 670 files, 2.6 MB (20.9.0 had 666 files).
  • The new notes function, run on this changelog: returns the 18-line 20.10.0 section; a version with no entry returns nothing, so the commit list is used instead.

Publishing (pnpm publish-melonjs) happens after this merges, as a separate step.

Dates the 20.10.0 changelog section.

Also takes the GitHub release notes from the changelog. They used to be the
commit subjects between two tags, which read as history rather than as a
release: they opened with the release and changelog housekeeping, and the
written entries never left the file. `release.ts` now leads the notes with the
version's changelog section (falling back to the commit subjects when there is
none), keeps the contributor sections, and ends with the compare link.

Comment thread scripts/release.ts Fixed
CodeQL flagged the pattern built from the version as incomplete escaping:
only the dots were escaped. Searching for the heading as plain text at the
start of a line needs no escaping at all, and finds the same section.
