Description
⚠️ Before posting ⚠️
- This is a bug, not a question or an enhancement.
- I've searched for similar issues and didn't find a duplicate.
- I've written a clear and descriptive title for this issue, not just "Bug" or "Crash".
- I agree to follow Nextcloud's Code of Conduct.
Steps to reproduce
After upgrading the app from version 3.30.8 to 3.31.0, I am experiencing an issue where attempting to upload a file results in an error message stating, "Upload failed, No internet connection." This problem does not occur when using the previous version (3.30.8), indicating that the upgrade may have introduced this bug.
Expected behaviour
The app should allow users to upload files without showing an incorrect error message when an active internet connection is available.
Actual behaviour
Upon attempting a file upload in version 3.31.0, users receive an erroneous "No internet connection" error despite having a stable internet connection.

I have the same problem, Pixel 6a, also GrapheneOS, app version 3.31.0, observed this problem for a few days already. Can't find anything useful in the logs, but check it out yourself. Upload both automatic and manual doesn't work, on the website it works. Exploit protection compatibility mode doesn't help.

I'm just rocking the previous version and it works fine (3.30.8). You can download the apk from github here.

But Im using gplay version. Cannot downgrade
hermeneuticlens commentedon Mar 18, 2025
Same issue here. The app itself has no problem loading files from the server. Only the upload does not work. Says "Upload failed. No internet connection." This is a new issue because previous uploads have been without any problem, and there is no rejection from the firewall, either.

app developers are damn busy to fix the bug

I know there is for sure much to be done, but fixing this would be pretty essential.

Must be related to PR #14526
At a bare minimum:
https://github.com/nextcloud/android/pull/14526/files#diff-cdb6e81bddcbc48ec2fb14e47ef4b4eafc0e46a19b2ce9a8b9adb8d4107dec70R186-R188
checking if airplane mode is on is insufficient, since it is possible to have airplane mode on as well as still have wifi on.
That said the bug triggers even if airplane mode is off, so the conditional a few lines up must be wrong.

You're right. The app just needs to honour the "sync on cell data" setting of configured directories

Hello
I updated the PR. Could you please check with this?
Thank you so much for the feedbacks.

After reading some of the responses to this problem I had a closer look at my setup today. It turned out that when at home the Android app could not reach the server because of my DNS setup. So, as I think someone else said, the "No internet connection" really means "I can't reach the server". It would be better to either change the error message or to change the check, or, really, both. So it should say "No internet connection" when there really isn't an internet connection, but, if there is an internet connection and it just can't reach the server, it probably should say "Server unreachable", possibly with a suggestion to check DNS.
In my case I have Pi-hole setup at home. After changing DNS settings so that Pi-hole is the only DNS server, and then adding an entry for my server in the "Local DNS Records" section it all started to work!

@alperozturk96 , do you have any news?
This is still not fixed after 10 months. I think this should be seen as a medium-high regression.
I'm still experiencing those "no internet" notifications many many times every day for the last 10 months. This is getting very frustrating :(

Hello
I previously created a PR to address this issue and shared it here to gather feedback, as we haven’t been able to reproduce the problem on our end.
Could you please download the Generated QA APK from the PR and test it on your device? After testing, could share the results with us. In particular, logs would be very helpful.
You can obtain them by navigating to Settings → Logs and filtering the logs using the keyword

For what it’s worth, the exact same version of the NC app, connected to the same server, works without any issues on my Android tablet. The tablet has no SIM card slot and is therefore connected via Wi-Fi only.
Tablet and phone are connected on the same WiFi network.
Tablet is able to sync files to the server using WiFi.
Phone is not able to able to sync files to the server using WiFi only
@alperozturk96 I’m currently unable to test your APK for various reasons on my end, sorry about that.
That said, it does seem odd that this bug cannot be reproduced, given that many users have reported encountering it.

It sounds like one remaining failure mechanism is:
I haven't been able to confirm if #16232 resolves that specific scenario, as I do not have this setup myself. My issue was resolved by a prior PR.

Does your fix also remove this? Because the app is telling me so often the upload failed while I can navigate my folders from the app perfectly fine. There's also no way around it as it'll cache the result of the borked connectivity check
TheCrowned commentedon Feb 11, 2026
There's clearly been a regression. I installed 3.30.8, and I have no issues. The patch in the PR doesn't work for me.
alperozturk96 commentedon Jun 3, 2026
According to the other user latest changes fixed issue.
Could you try with this apk?
TheCrowned commentedon Jun 4, 2026
If you can point me to an apk generated by a CI workflow from a PR, I'll be happy to give it a go. I don't feel comfortable installing apks fetched from a cloud dir bearing no verification.
