fix: verify residual violations after explicit fix - #26
ECS can return success after a fix pass that leaves another violation, reproduced with an opening tag and no final newline. Run a read-only verification after each successful explicit fix batch and propagate residual violations or tool failures. Do not apply a second write pass automatically. Check remains read-only.
The native CLI regression failed before the change (fix returned 0 while check returned 2) and passes afterward. A transport test verifies failure propagation, path preservation, and absence of --fix in verification. PHPUnit: 73 tests, 492 assertions. Composer validation/platform checks, syntax and ECS checks, and whitespace checks pass. Independent review approved exact SHA de01bb1. Workflows are unchanged; a fresh local actionlint invocation is still being diagnosed and is not claimed as passing.
Stacked on #25 to preserve the current consolidated provenance, package and skill contracts. No release, consumer migration, permission change or dependency version update.

Bug Fixes
Formatter runs now verify each successful batch with a read-only check. Remaining violations or tool errors return a nonzero status instead of being reported as fully resolved.
A formatter pass may reveal additional violations. Review the resulting changes before running another fix pass.
Read-only checks do not modify files, and the existing check-only workflow is unchanged.
Successful formatter fix batches now run a read-only verification check. The runner returns a nonzero status if violations remain or verification fails. Documentation and tests cover this behavior.

Summary
Run fix and verification checks src/Standards/StandardsRunner.php, README.md, .changelog/verify-fix-result.md
After a successful fix run, the runner performs a check without --fix and returns its status. The README and changelog describe verification and residual violations.
Test verification results tests/Standards/StandardsRunnerTest.php, tests/Integration/StandardsTest.php
Unit tests cover verification status propagation. Integration tests compare exit codes, confirm checks do not change the file, and verify that a second fix/check pass remains stable.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names the main change: after an explicit fix, residual violations are verified. It matches the changeset, which adds a read-only ECS check after each successful fix batch and propagates nonzero status. The title is short, single-sentence, and specific.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description states the purpose and scope: a read-only verification after each successful explicit fix batch, propagation of residual violations or tool failures, and no automatic second write pass. It also names the regression and transport tests that appear in the changeset, so it is clearly related to the changes.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue [#24] requires read-only verification after each successful explicit fix batch, propagation of residual violations or tool failures, no automatic second write pass, and regression coverage. StandardsRunner::run runs ECS again without --fix after each successful fix batch and returns its status. Unit coverage checks status propagation, path preservation, and absence of --fix. Integration coverage uses the packaged CLI, checks the no-final-newline residual violation, verifies read-only byte preservation, and verifies stable clean fixes. README documentation describes partial-fix behavior. The supplied PR evidence reports coverage with the locked ECS version and no dependency or security-configuration changes.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changed files are the standards runner, focused unit and integration tests, README documentation, and a patch changelog. These changes directly implement or document issue [#24], or provide regression coverage. No unrelated workflow, release, consumer migration, permission, dependency-version, upstream-engine, or security-configuration change is shown.

A rabbit checks the fixes twice, Then leaves the source untouched and neat. If style rules still remain in place, The runner shares that status straight. One more fix, one check, all clear— A quiet hop to celebrate.

Please review HEAD de01bb1. Automatic review was skipped for this non-default target. The prior repository quota notice advertised the next included review at approximately 16:38 UTC; this is one supported request, with no other CodeRabbit review reported running. Local regression and independent review passed; hosted PHP 8.3/8.4/8.5 and reusable checks passed. This review starts at the top of the stack so integrating the fix does not immediately stale parent-PR review.

Additional validation for unchanged HEAD de01bb1: an independent read-only investigation reran the unchanged official actionlint 1.7.12, all five workflows passed with ShellCheck active. Earlier local waiting did not reproduce; its cause remains unproven. No suppression, custom validator or environment/security change.
The exact native Composer archive was installed into a fresh disposable consumer with no plugins or scripts (22 runtime packages; ECS 13.3.9). The EOF-sensitive proxy sequence returned check=2, fix=2, check=2, explicit fix=0, check=0, fix=0. Read-only checks preserved source; all operations preserved the lock. Installed class origin and native LLM Skills discovery were verified in separate processes. No consumer rollout or release was performed. Existing reviews are left running without retrigger.
Please review current HEAD afdd177. This is the first explicit Codex request for this HEAD. The current public summary has not changed since 16:33:37 UTC and only identifies predecessor de01bb1: completed code review and running security review. Read-only investigation at 17:10 UTC found no Codex check run or submitted current-HEAD review and no new Codex inline finding. That stale marker alone cannot establish a live worker or current approval. Do not duplicate any existing review already covering afdd177. The only change after de01bb1 is the reviewed nonzero regression assertion; hosted 73 tests/493 assertions pass on PHP 8.3/8.4/8.5. Existing security activity is not cancelled or treated as approval.
A regular code review gets triggered (for example, "@codex review" or when a PR is opened), and you’re opted in so security review runs alongside code review
Once complete, Codex will leave suggestions, or a comment if no findings are found.
Please review current HEAD afdd177. This is the first review request for this SHA after the previously included hourly review completed at 16:43:26 UTC; current time is after 17:45 UTC. Readback shows no CodeRabbit review running. Finding 4371561887 was corrected by explicitly asserting the residual check is nonzero before comparing exit codes; exact-SHA independent review passed. Hosted checks passed 73 tests/493 assertions on PHP 8.3/8.4/8.5. Existing coverage for de01bb1 is not being treated as approval of this HEAD. Please inspect the bounded added test directly at tests/Integration/StandardsTest.php lines 424–444 and the unit test tests/Standards/StandardsRunnerTest.php lines 37–50; locked ECS is 13.3.8, and the separately installed exact runtime archive also exercised ECS 13.3.9.
