I am a Staff Software Engineer, currently working as Software Engineering Manager at Wellhub, with 19 years of experience building backend and distributed systems. I combine hands-on engineering with technical and people leadership: designing resilient systems, building robust developer tools, and helping engineers grow.
My engineering philosophy centers on clean, idiomatic code, decoupling complex business logic, rigorous testing strategies, and API-first architecture. I still write code every week, mostly the open source tools listed below, and write about engineering at rapatao.com.
- Languages: Go, Kotlin, Java.
- Platform: Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Redis.
- Core Competencies: Distributed Systems, Event-Driven Architecture, API Design & Documentation, Testing Strategies (Kafka, WireMock), Infrastructure & Tooling, Build Automation.
- Leadership: Technical direction and system design, decisions recorded as ADRs, code review and continuous delivery processes, mentoring engineers on technical and soft skills.
- Wellhub: Software Engineering Manager leading two teams: one owns the notification platform (email, SMS, WhatsApp, push, in-app), localization, session validation and OTP challenges; the other builds foundational features for the native apps and web portals. Previously Senior Software Engineer on the same platform team.
- Mercado Livre: Technical Lead and Senior Software Engineer on the supermarket product, including free shipping rules for buyers.
- LBS Local (Apontador, Maplink): Led the rewrite and migration of legacy systems to Spring 5, gRPC, GraphQL, Elasticsearch and Kubernetes, and defined the code review and continuous delivery process.
- Consulting (ALTEN, Spread, BRQ): Backend work for Bosch Security Systems, BNP Paribas Cardif and Ticket (Edenred), including leading the architecture of a custom ETL platform.
- Ruleset Engine: A lightweight, extensible rules engine for high-performance expression evaluation. It enables developers to decouple complex business logic from core application code using native Kotlin or scriptable engines like GraalVM.
- pr-checker-go: A standalone macOS menu bar application that monitors GitHub Pull Requests, enhancing visibility and workflow efficiency across repositories.
- SendGrid Mock: A development-focused service that simulates the SendGrid API. It provides a local, cost-effective environment to test email integrations and inspect payloads without hitting production APIs.
- md2: A fast, extensible Go CLI that converts Markdown files to PDF, HTML, and other formats, using a two-stage rendering strategy with optional Mermaid diagram support.
- aseprite-macos-build: An automated build system that streamlines the compilation and native packaging of Aseprite on macOS, simplifying complex dependency management and build steps.
- Virtual Display: A macOS menu bar app that mirrors a resizable region of the screen into a standalone window, so any meeting app can share an arbitrary rectangle. Includes region presets, global shortcuts, a URL scheme for scripting, recording, and Lua plugins.
- btmgr: A macOS GUI tool written in Go for managing background tasks, login items, launch agents, and daemons, everything shown in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions.
- Documenting Decisions with ADRs: Why Your Codebase Needs a Memory
- md2: A Simple CLI to Turn Markdown into PDF, HTML, and Text
- TDD in the Agent Era: Why Test-Driven Development Matters More Than Ever
- BTManager: A Better Way to Manage macOS Background Tasks
- Decoupling Logic with Ruleset Engine: A Lightweight Approach for the JVM
