Summary

Switches the branch used to build the release/6.4.x from swiftlang/swift:nightly-main-jammy to swiftlang/swift:nightly-6.4.x-jammy.

Ideal longer term would be using the swift:6.4 images, but those aren't published yet.

This works around an issue that started appearing on Sept 10th with docc building SwiftPM documentation using the swiftlang/swift:nightly-main-jammy image. This only resolves the build issues for the release/6.4.x branch, which is published to docs.swift.org/latest/documentation, to ideally re-enable nightly updates

  • That toolchain has a Foundation/docc regression on Linux: docc crashes with Illegal instruction (SIGILL) inside libFoundationXML.so (XMLElement.__allocating_init(xmlString:), from swift-docc's MarkdownRenderer.visit) while rendering swift-package-manager's Sources/PackageManagerDocs/Documentation.docc/RegistryServerSpecification.md, which contains a raw HTML <details><summary>...</summary>...</details> block wrapping a JSON code fence.

Test plan

  • Confirmed swift package generate-documentation --target PackageManagerDocs --experimental-enable-custom-templates --enable-mentioned-in completes successfully (exit 0, archive generated, RegistryServerSpecification page rendered) with swiftlang/swift:nightly-6.4.x-jammy.
  • Ran this repo's scripts/build_docs.py end-to-end under swiftlang/swift:nightly-6.4.x-jammy with a clean workspace — all 23 documentation sources (including swiftpm, swift-testing, docc-documentation, embedded-swift, swift-wasm) built successfully.
  • CI run on this PR against release/6.4.x with the updated image.

…ch build

The nightly-main-jammy image builds docc from swift's main branch, which
has a Foundation/docc regression that crashes with Illegal instruction
(SIGILL) in libFoundationXML while rendering swift-package-manager's
RegistryServerSpecification.md (raw <details> HTML wrapping a JSON code
fence). Verified that image is not affected: docc renders that page and
a full combined build succeeds cleanly with nightly-6.4.x-jammy, which
tracks this branch's own release/6.4.x nightly instead of main.
