Add note on Global Discovery and Relaying in documentation - #1027
Conversation
Added a note about Global Discovery and Relaying features in Syncthing.
|
For the record, the part about global discovery isn't correct. The discovery server is run and operated by the Syncthing Foundation, and not by any third-parties (unless you change the default settings to use your own discovery server, etc.). |
Clarify the default behavior of Syncthing's discovery server and the potential for antivirus flags.

reworded the note - does that look correct?

Why are we talking about relay nodes after starting the paragraph about discovery servers? The two are distinct and not related |
Clarified note about antivirus software and Syncthing connections, emphasizing end-to-end encryption and settings options.
|
Okay, reworded it so they are described separately - does that look okay? |
|
To be honest, not really. I don't think I've seen any reported case of antivirus software having problems with the discovery server. It is usually only relays that may trigger those warnings (as already mentioned in the FAQ). |
Clarified note about antivirus software and added a link to the FAQ for more information.

okay, maybe just a small note with a link to the faq entry? |
When I tried SyncThing a while back, MalwareBytes threw up a warning about a bad ip address and hackers, so I abandoned it out of caution. So mentioning this upfront might be helpful - could make it shorter.
