Moves tinybox's stored data onto the uniform storage schema v2 from tinystoragedrivers v1.0.0. The spec is docs/specs/schema-v2.md in tinystoragedrivers. The changes:

  • Collections are renamed to <owner>.<entity>.
  • Record bodies are bare snake_case, and times are stored as _ms integers.
  • Ids come from Key::of or are ULIDs.
  • storage_schema() sits behind the off-by-default storage feature of the *-bus contract crate. It carries pure v1→v2 migration Steps, so the host composes it without linking the implementation crate.

Sub-issues: tinyhumansai/openhuman#7987

Fork PRs rolled up here (each green on hosted CI before merge):

Gates: every fork PR passed this repo's hosted CI (fmt, clippy -D warnings, tests, coverage where configured) on its head SHA. The OpenHuman epic branch composes this schema at the pinned commit, with cargo check, clippy and the storage e2e suites green.

Part of tinyhumansai/openhuman#7973

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added support for migrating existing box and jail-index data to the latest storage format, preserving record IDs and converting timestamps as needed.
    • Box records now support the updated format for states, configuration, ports, and creation times.
  • Improvements
    • Box listings now retrieve all results across multiple pages.
    • Operations on boxes that do not exist return a clear unknown-box error.
    • Storage setup now uses a shared schema for declaring collections and applying migrations.

Move the tinystoragedrivers core, busproxy, and client dependencies from
the v0.11.0 tag to v1.0.0 and pin them to the exact 1.0.0 version. The
lockfile picks up the new transitive dependencies the 1.0.0 release
pulls in, including zstd, ulid, and data-encoding.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Add tests covering the recording of driver output so the behaviour is
exercised directly rather than only through higher-level tests.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
…-drivers/src/record.rs

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Add drivers for record and index body handling, along with their test
suites and schema tests. This extends the drivers crate with the
capability to process these body types.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Introduce a schema module that validates driver definitions and a test
suite covering the accepted and rejected shapes. This gives driver
authors early feedback on malformed definitions instead of failing
later at runtime.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
The box and index stores now go through the typed Repo layer with
schema-versioned writes instead of hand-rolled collection setup and
compare-and-swap loops, so the host declares collections and the stores
share one update path. The index store converts between the registry's
legacy JSON form and the v2 body on load and save.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Declares box.boxes and box.jail_index (owner box, module scope) through
storage_schema(), stores box records as snake_case DTO bodies with
millisecond times, uses Repo for the state compare-and-swap, and adds
v1 to v2 document steps for tinybox_boxes and tinybox_jail_index.

Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The test rig now composes the module's storage schema and prepares it against the in-memory backend before connecting the host, so tests exercise the same declared storage layout the host would set up in production.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Add allow attributes for clippy::needless_pass_by_value on the store
constructors, since the handles are intentionally taken by value. Also
wrap code identifiers in backticks in the record module docs.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Add a crate-level doc entry describing the storage_schema module, its box-owned collections and v1 to v2 migration steps, and the fact that the host declares the collections and grants the module scoped access while the stores never declare collections themselves.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
feat(drivers): box storage on the v2 schema (tsd v1.0.0)
Introduce index body and schema handling in tinybox-drivers alongside the existing box store, and wire the bus storage layer to use them. This gives the storage stack a shared representation for index metadata and schema definitions instead of keeping that logic local to the bus crate.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Add a test that runs a fully populated box through the v1 migration and checks the result equals the current record encoding, so the two representations cannot drift apart. The bus crate now pulls in tinystoragedrivers-core with default features so the migration code is available to the test.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Make the storage module public so other crates can use its types directly.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Added a must_use attribute to the jail index from_body helper so callers cannot silently discard the converted index value.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
The migration contract test now builds its egress allowlist from a plain array instead of allocating a vector, matching the constructor's expected input and keeping the fixture free of needless allocation.

Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
The storage module and its serde_json and tinystoragedrivers-core dependencies are now optional, enabled through a new storage feature that is off by default so the bus contract's default closure stays serde only. The drivers crate enables the feature since it composes the schema.

📝 Walkthrough

The pull request adds version 2 storage schemas and migrations for box and jail-index records. It updates driver stores to use repositories, adds box-record conversions, and prepares the schema in the module test setup.

Changes: Storage schema v2 and repository integration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Define v2 collections and convert legacy records
crates/tinybox-bus/Cargo.toml, crates/tinybox-bus/src/lib.rs, crates/tinybox-bus/src/storage/*
The bus crate adds a feature-gated storage schema with v2 box and jail-index collections. Migration steps convert v1 records, with tests for converted values and migration failures.
Encode box records and use repository operations
crates/tinybox-drivers/Cargo.toml, crates/tinybox-drivers/src/record*, crates/tinybox-drivers/src/box_store*, crates/tinybox-drivers/src/faulty_tests.rs
The driver adds a v2 BoxRecord representation and uses a versioned repository for box operations. Tests cover conversions, unknown boxes, and listing across pages.
Use repository storage for jail index and prepare host schema
crates/tinybox-drivers/src/index_store*, crates/tinybox-drivers/src/lib.rs, crates/tinybox-module/src/tinybus_module/storage_tests.rs, Cargo.toml, deny.toml
The jail-index store uses a versioned repository and converts timestamps between seconds and milliseconds. The driver exposes the storage schema, and the module test setup prepares it. The workspace updates storage-driver pins and advisory ignores.

The conversions preserve record identities and security-bearing policy fields, and no widened caller authority was established. However, safe deployment depends on host-controlled migration ordering and recovery behavior that could not be verified. Interrupted migration or an uncoordinated cutover could leave existing resources outside the inventory used for lifecycle management.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · architecture · inferred: The stores now address only v2 collections, while migration execution and recovery belong to the host. The reviewed integration demonstrates schema preparation, not a legacy-data cutover. Without migration-before-access and coordination with legacy writers, existing box or jail records could become temporarily invisible to lifecycle management. This is an unresolved rollout and recovery risk, not an observed omission in deployed hosts.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — A migration or cutover failure can affect the legacy box and jail-index inventory within each host-assigned storage scope, rather than only one requested box. Cross-scope exposure cannot be established without the host's authorization implementation.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The existing module caller obtains a scoped document handle and passes it to the store; the repository adapter adds no tenant or collection selector. Both v2 collections declare Module scope. Binding that scope to authenticated identity remains an external host responsibility and was not verified here.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The box body keeps unknown creation time distinct from repository metadata time. This preserves the information used by lifecycle cleanup instead of making migrated boxes appear newly created.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Make the host cutover contract explicit: exclude legacy writers, complete scoped migration before exposing v2 repositories, and define recovery and rollback for interrupted target writes or source deletion. Validate these guarantees against the pinned migration engine with fault injection.

  • Lane summary: The migration and v2 store are well covered: new test files pin the v1→v2 conversion, the jail-index round trip, the schema shape, and the record encoding against the migration, and the drivers' tests verify the stored body and paginated listing. The set_state CAS retry test (set_state_gives_up_when_the_record_never_settles) now exercises the Repo::update loop instead of the removed manual retry loop, but the index's faulty-tests wrapper now delegates to put_with, so the conflict injection still applies; no defect found.

description

  • Conclusion: Success
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Lane summary: This revision adds test files for the new storage modules, and they exercise the migrations end to end (including failure paths and round-trips against the record encoding) without changing production behaviour. I found no defect introduced by these changes. I could not verify two of the newly added tests would compile cleanly because their helper APIs live in tinystoragedrivers, which is not available here, so I make no claim about them. The description matches what the overall change does. I did not check the description against the diff, since this lane reviews code. No findings. Note: the description itself is the subject of another lane. The body accurately describes the schema rename, snake_case bodies, `_ms` times, `Key::of`, the off-by-default `storage` feature and the migration steps, and the auto-generated summary matches the new multi-page listing, unknown-box errors and migration support. One thing the body never mentions is the `deny.toml` change, which suppresses three `RUSTSEC` advisories for `zip`. It is documented inline and is arguably part of the dependency bump, but a reviewer reading only the description would not know the advisory ignores were added. That is a description gap, not a code defect, so I leave it here rather than as a finding. No code defects found. The new test files follow the repository's test-layout rules (sibling `_tests.rs` files wired by `#[path]`, no `panic!` outside the `#[allow]`-annotated module), and their fixtures assert the conversion contains or rejects the bad inputs they feed in.
