Token changes can alter text, borders, and layout without failing behavior tests. This adds six Mosaic screenshot tests. They cover both open switchers, the user profile Account page in light, dark, and narrow layouts, and an edit-name form showing a banner and a field error. The profile tests render the real <UserProfile /> against the fake FAPI, so a change to the profile's sections or pages shows up in the screenshots.
Screenshots are generated and compared only inside the digest-pinned Playwright 1.62.1 image, locally and in CI. pnpm --filter @clerk/mosaic test:visual compares, and test:visual:update regenerates every Linux baseline with Vitest's update mode, so new screenshots are created and unused ones removed. Locally, both mount the checkout into the image and install Linux dependencies into Docker volumes, leaving the host node_modules untouched. In CI, the Mosaic Visual Tests job builds on the runner with the turbo remote cache and only runs Vitest in the image. The suite bundles Inter, disables CSS motion, hides carets, checks the narrow profile for horizontal overflow, and compares with zero color tolerance and zero mismatched pixels.
The comparison is advisory and not a required check. Screenshot differences warn and upload actual, expected, and diff images for seven days. A failed build, or a comparison that crashes before writing images, fails the job.
A token change the suite catches
Dimming dark-mode secondary text from neutralMix(50, 64.25) to neutralMix(50, 40) fails only the dark profile screenshot. The comparison also catches the change to 62, which is too small to see.

Walkthrough
The change adds a Chromium visual-test project for Mosaic, with screenshot tests for organization and user switchers and user profiles. It adds fixtures, deterministic browser and font setup, and Docker commands for comparing screenshots or updating baselines. A CI job reports screenshot differences and uploads artifacts. The testing guide now describes the visual-test workflow and its role alongside Swingset stories.
clerk/javascript#10408: Updates Mosaic colors, including dark-mode colors, which affect the UserProfile screenshots added here.
Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review 07c01
The new visual test job is intended to be advisory, but as written it can also pass when an ordinary test fails. Fix the screenshot-failure classification before merging. The baseline-update script and the testing docs have smaller issues that can be handled in the same pass.

This is awesome, always found visual tests to be a bit flaky, mostly comes from the rendering environment, so maybe we:
Pin the environment. Baselines are *-darwin.png, so Linux CI won't match. Generate and compare only in the pinned Playwright Docker image, locally and in CI.
Self-host a font in test/public instead of Arial, which is likely missing on Linux (not verified).
Kill motion globally.reducedMotion only helps where CSS respects it. Add a setup stylesheet that disables animations/transitions and hides the caret.
Roll out non-blocking. Upload diffs as artifacts and rerun the same commit to measure flake rate before making it required.
Prefer layout assertions for layout bugs, e.g. scrollWidth === clientWidth overflow checks.
I haven't run the suite; these come from reading the code.

Do not classify every PNG attachment as a visual difference.
If a browser test fails on an ordinary assertion, Vitest can write a failure screenshot under .vitest/attachments/. This branch then reports the nonzero exit as an advisory difference and lets the CI job pass. Distinguish screenshot-comparison failures from other test failures before suppressing the exit status. Correct the documented direct-Vitest command.
Line 101 still recommends pnpm --filter @clerk/mosaic exec vitest run for every project. That command now includes visual and bypasses the pinned image, contrary to this guidance. Replace the command with explicit nonvisual projects, or state that it is unsuitable for the visual project.

Back up baselines before update deletes them.
In update mode, the script deletes every *-chromium-linux.png baseline before the Docker run. If the run fails, the restore step runs git checkout only on tracked screenshot files. That step overwrites uncommitted edits to tracked baselines with their HEAD versions. It does not restore untracked baselines, so those stay deleted. Copy the baselines to a temporary directory before deleting them, then restore that copy on failure.
