- New workspace crate xml-sec-xades implements the structured-xades access traits over a VerifiedSession and runs prepare, field checks, countersignature paths, hash uses, signing-certificate binding and the B-B assembly for one selected signature. No second XML representation is built and no signature is verified again. - Signer paths are the exact X.509 paths verification validated: the adapter selects the certificates by their recorded fingerprints and re-checks them through the shared path processor with the operation's provider and certificate policy. - xml-sec gains the public surface the traits need: accounted tree navigation and base64 decoding, subtree containment, bare-name target resolution, DigestMethod resolution and digests under the compiled policy, a provider-backed certificate path verifier and the exact validation instant of X.509 trust evidence. - B-B fixtures (enveloped, enveloping, detached, parallel) and adversarial variants are signed by xmlsec1 with a real three-level CA path; scripts/generate-xades-fixtures.sh regenerates them. Closes #243
- The fixture script adds an enveloped plain XMLDSig countersignature over the parent's complete SignatureValue, signed by xmlsec1 after the parent. - The test binds the countersignature as its own actor: validated path, key association and hash uses, with the root still meeting B-B. Part of #243

the root, intermediate, and signer use a fixed validity window that includes the

fixtures are regenerated. Add a script check that fails if any generated

…ixtures (#129) ## Summary Completes the generic XAdES baseline validation core for B-B, B-T, B-LT and B-LTA (ETSI EN 319 132-1 V1.3.1) and qualifies it against independent public fixtures. - `baseline::assess` joins the stage reports of exactly the level the preparation requested and states whether every condition of that level holds, including the earlier levels. A different level, or an archive census built from another preparation or another authenticated credential census, is refused. Additional containers never promote the requested level. - `Evidence::basic` and `Evidence::timestamped` build B-B and B-T evidence without naming the credential type that only B-LT/B-LTA reports carry. - Independent qualification (`scripts/qualify-xades-corpus.py`) over SHA256-pinned DSS fixtures, with xmlsec1, OpenSSL and libxml2 C14N as test-only oracles: - B-B, B-LT and B-LTA positives: table 2 census, XMLDSig verification, isolated SignatureValue and signed-data mutations, timestamp tokens and the B-LT OCSP response, byte-for-byte signature/archive timestamp inputs, SigningCertificateV2 and IssuerSerialV2 binding at every level; - negatives, each checked for its stated defect: a copied SignatureTimeStamp token, no KeyInfo, no SigningTime, the forbidden SigningCertificate v1, unreferenced SignedProperties, a tampered KeyInfo certificate; - signature wrapping: SignedProperties moved outside QualifyingProperties with a forged copy, and an unsigned ds:Object beside the signed content; - a document with two signatures, judged separately. ## Consumer evidence - xml-sec XAdES adapter (B-B, structured-world/xml-sec#244): its full test suite at 50a53bf passes against this branch, including a check that its real B-B report assesses as the requested level. - The issue's final acceptance also needs the xml-sec B-T/B-LT/B-LTA adapter and the isitsigned consumer. This PR stays open until both have been verified against it; any gap they report is fixed here. ## Testing - `cargo fmt --check`, `cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --all-features -- -D warnings` - `cargo nextest run --workspace --all-features`: 1599 passed, also on Rust 1.92 - `cargo test --doc --workspace --all-features` - `cargo check -p structured-xades --no-default-features --features alloc` for `thumbv7em-none-eabihf` and `wasm32-unknown-unknown` - `uv run --with lxml scripts/qualify-xades-corpus.py`: all checks pass (run on 868c807; the later commit adds only constructors the harness does not use) Closes #4
- validate_basic takes no separate account: XML queries spend the request's execution and certificate processing runs on a parser whose fresh account and path bounds come from the operation's X.509 resource and key-trust policy (new VerifiedSession::execution, certificate_parser and certificate_path_bounds). - An identity outside the verified request is refused as UnknownSignature instead of reported as a signer without a path. - Paths are collected only for the root and its incorporated countersignatures, so a signature nested in signed content is never decoded, hashed or re-checked for this root. - Path certificates are found with the internal identity that recorded the trust evidence (X509TrustEvidence::certificate_identity_in), not through the document digest policy; a SHA-384-only policy no longer stops B-B. - resolve_bare_name_in shares the dereference kernel's fragment unescaping and same-document ID semantics instead of its own NCName check, while still refusing XPointer forms. - The certificate digest provider classifies MD5 as the format prohibition before the XMLDSig digest policy applies. - Signer and certificate lookups charge every comparison. - Fixture certificates use fixed validity dates that contain the claimed signing time and the tests' verification instant; new SHA-384-only and nested-signature fixtures carry the regression tests. Summary
xml-sec-xades, a workspace crate that validates the XAdES B-B level (ETSI EN 319 132-1 §6.3) of a signature xml-sec has already verified, through the sharedstructured-xadescore.structured-xades.Changes
xml_sec_xades::DocumentimplementsXml,SignatureXml,ReferenceXml,BinaryXml,AttributeXml,QNameXml,ScalarXml,UriXml,DateTimeXml,CertificateXml,HashXmlandDigestProvider; every query checks document identity and generation and charges the caller'sWorkfirst. MD5 certificate digest methods are classified as the format prohibition independently of the XMLDSig digest policy.validate_basic(session, signature, certificates, visitor)refuses identities outside the request, then runsprepare → check_fields → bind_counters → check_participants → check_path → basicand hands the report to a scoped visitor. XML queries spend the request's own execution; certificate processing runs on a fresh account bounded by the operation's X.509 resource policy and path bounds. Completed negative facts (no checked path, countersignature key mismatch, MD5 or unprocessed hash) areOutcomevariants; stage failures keep their original typed cause.KeyInfovalues and the caller's pool, then re-checked by the shared path processor with the operation's provider, certificate-signature permissions and validation instant.extension::{inspect_node, first_child, next_sibling, subtree_contains, with_base64};VerifiedSession::{resolve_bare_name_in, resolve_digest_method_in, digest_in, certificate_path_verifier, certificate_parser, certificate_path_bounds, execution}; publicCertificatePathVerifier;X509TrustEvidence::{validation_instant, certificate_identity_in}. Bare-name resolution shares the dereference kernel's fragment unescaping and ID semantics. Documented indocs/xmldsig.md.scripts/generate-xades-fixtures.shissues a root → intermediate → signer path with fixed validity dates and has xmlsec1 sign enveloped, enveloping, detached, parallel, countersigned, SHA-384-only and nested-signature B-B fixtures plus adversarial variants (certificate digest of another certificate, MD5 certificate digest,Cert/@URI, SigningTime without a zone, wrongTarget, untyped SignedProperties reference,KeyInfowith only an issuer/serial selector).Testing
fmt, clippy (workspace, all features and the backend matrix), the full workspace test suite with PKCS#11 and the xmlsec1 oracle, doctests, workspace build, the no_std checks and the wasm smoke build pass on macOS.
