Summary

Release Kromacut v4.2.0 from develop into main.

8fd0e73 and c580460 were pushed directly to develop. Their source changes have since been reviewed here and their tests run; see Validation.

Compatibility

Saved Smooth Meshing settings migrate from on/off to Medium/None. Medium builds the same geometry as the previous enabled setting. Existing profiles and palettes remain compatible. Height dithering and Flat Paint models can differ from 4.1.0 results and should be rebuilt and checked in the slicer. Portable Linux AppImages open associated files only after desktop integration.

Validation

All run locally on develop:

  • node scripts/check-release-notes.mjs: versions synchronized and notes present for all 12 languages.
  • 861 Node regression tests: 860 passed, 1 skipped (it requires Windows and NSIS).
  • 11 Rust unit tests passed (cargo test --lib --locked), including desktop file-open queueing and legal-page URL validation.
  • npm run test:e2e:i18n:build: production build and all 4 i18n browser tests passed.
  • Browser smoke suite plus the Settings legal-link specs, including all Flat Paint preview, desktop file-open, Smooth Meshing, and Height dithering specs. The 2 pre-existing landing-page failures are fixed by fix: restore landing artwork credit links #93, and all 18 landing and sticky-CTA tests now pass.
  • Lint passes, i18n and docs checks pass, and the production npm audit is clear.

Browser tests used the container's preinstalled Chromium.

Release sequence

  1. Merge this PR.
  2. Tag the merge commit as v4.2.0 and push the tag.
  3. Verify every native build and the published release assets.
  4. Verify the follow-up Pages deployment and live update feed.

Packaged-app runtime testing on every OS is not claimed.

Share smoothed class and carrier boundaries while preserving flat layer stacks and ordinary smooth geometry. Keep preparation and cap generation responsive, record the built strength in exports and instructions, and update localized guides and regression coverage.

Closes #87
Allow Smooth Meshing with Flat Paint
Expose localized Privacy and Terms links in Settings, opening the system browser on desktop with validated native destinations and retry feedback. Update translated guides and cover web and desktop link behavior.

Exclude native files from Vite watching and restrict dependency scanning to the app entry to prevent intermittent Windows EBUSY startup failures.
Synchronize the 4.2.0 version across package, lockfile, Tauri, and Cargo
manifests, move the unreleased changelog entries into a dated v4.2.0
section with upgrade notes, and publish translated update-feed notes for
all 12 supported languages.

Commit c580460 saved several locale strings with a lossy encoding, so
non-ASCII characters became "?". Restore the affected Flat Paint guide
paragraph in all 11 translated languages and the flatPaintPartProgress
build-progress label in bn, fr, hi, ja, ro, uk, and zh-CN. Latin-script
text is restored character for character; Bengali, Hindi, Japanese,
Ukrainian, and Chinese text is retranslated from the English source with
each guide's existing terminology.

The adjacent build-failure paragraph now uses the same Build 3D Model and
Layer Preview names as the app and the other guides.

fix: restore corrupted Flat Paint translations
The localized showcase credit wrapped its link in a <source> Trans tag.
react-i18next parses void element names as self-closing, so the anchor
rendered empty with the artwork title as plain text beside it. Rename the
tag to <credit> in all 12 languages and add an i18n check that rejects
paired void-element tags in translation resources.

Update the sticky mobile CTA keyboard test for the footer language
selector, which now sits between the Terms link and the sticky action.

The 4.1.0 localization shortened the Naruto credit label to "Naruto" so
it reads naturally inside each language's "Original artwork" sentence.
The showcase test still expected the earlier English label; it was masked
until now because the credit links rendered empty.
