feat(task): observation registry with read completeness (U3, #1375) - #1912
This PR adds the bookkeeping that lets a write know whether the model actually saw the file: a task-local observation registry records when a full-file observation of a path exists, with a version token and a completion state. A partial read does not make a destination observable; move retargeting (carrying the source's completeness onto a destination) lands with the move call site in the consuming unit.
Without this, a later guarded write cannot tell "the model read this whole file" from "the model saw a slice" - the difference between allowing and refusing a full-file overwrite. It is the third of nine PRs for epic #1375 (chain tracked on #1991).
A task-local observation registry: registration, versioning and completion of observations, scoped to one task. Observations carry their creation timestamp; expiry is deferred to the consumer units that need a retention policy, matching the fidelity source for this unit.
A partial read never marks a path complete. Move retargeting (source -> destination, preserving the complete flag) is introduced with the move call site in the consuming unit, which carries its own behaviour tests.
A consistency port this unit carries: project-scoped safeWriteJson writes confine to a caller-supplied root (confineTo), so a project that ships .roo/mcp.json as a symlink to a file outside the workspace gets the write refused instead of replacing the outside file.
Deliberately not wired yet: the registry is not connected to production read, move, or guarded-write call sites here - those call sites are introduced by the units after this one, each with its own behaviour tests. The tests here exercise the registry's own contract.
Why the diff looks bigger than the change: the chain is non-cumulative - this branch is based on main and carries its own copy of the earlier units' content, which the GitHub diff shows as context.
Review focus:src/core/task/observationRegistry.ts and its spec, plus the confineTo parameter in src/utils/safeWriteJson.ts.
Test Procedure
From the repository root, with dependencies installed:
Manual check: point a project at a repo that ships .roo/mcp.json as a symlink to a file outside the workspace, edit a project MCP setting, and confirm the write is refused instead of replacing the outside file (the win32 symlink case is skipped in the unit test and verified this way).
Environment: Ubuntu 22.04 and Windows 11; unit layer only.

The Persistence Integrity row implemented at this head: safeWriteJson clears the staged path when safeWriteText reports PostCommitDurabilityError (the commit rename consumed it - it is the published target's former name), so the catch cleanup never unlinks a path this write no longer owns; the durability error rethrows and the target keeps its new content. Regression test: parent-directory fsync fails after the commit rename - target stays present with the new JSON, no unlink fires at the consumed staging path. Negative control: removing the guard reddens exactly that test. 114/119 with the file-safety suites (5 pre-existing skips). The Security Boundaries row remains the registered handle-relative family (owner-unit fix, precedent 6106959976).
Refreshed onto main 4f1dee18e (merge 2525fc218, no conflicts; lint-gate commit drops imports main's side orphaned and re-adds the safeWriteJson import the merged McpHub.spec mocks need). CodeRabbit's two new threads are fixed and resolved at 6aed30221: the injected fsync failure now targets a real directory descriptor with the wrapper's cause asserted, and the staging-release assertions compare the exact directory path. All six required checks green at 6aed30221.
The durability probe was reworked for portability (6953d6bcb): the injected fsync failure is triggered by watching the commit rename itself - the parent-directory fsync is the only fsync that runs after it - so the SUT opens and closes its own real directory handle and no descriptor is fabricated; the cause assertion is unchanged. 41832aca5 ports the resolveLockKey ENOENT-only fallback fix and the finally-block spy restoration from U2. All six required checks green.
File and JSON saves publish atomically, helping prevent incomplete files when a write fails.
Existing file permissions are preserved, and writes through symlinked destinations are handled consistently.
JSON writes can be restricted to a specified directory; writes resolving outside it are rejected. Project-scoped MCP configuration writes are restricted to the workspace.
Before publishing a confined write, the destination and its existing parent directories are rechecked; detected path changes abort the save. A filesystem change between that check and publication may still redirect a write.
Failed writes before publishing leave the existing file in place. Backup copies are removed after successful saves when possible, though a copy may remain if cleanup fails.
If publishing succeeds but directory durability cannot be confirmed, an error reports that the file was published but durability is uncertain.
The PR adds a task-local file observation registry and updates JSON and text publishing. safeWriteJson checks optional path confinement and delegates publication to safeWriteText. Project-scoped MCP configuration writes pass a workspace root; global writes remain unconstrained.

Summary
Text publication and path validation src/services/file-safety/safeWriteText.ts, src/services/file-safety/__tests__/safeWriteText.spec.ts, src/services/file-safety/__tests__/safeWriteText.integration.spec.ts
Adds publish-target and lock-key resolution, staging and backup behavior, durability handling, and authorized target and ancestor checks. Tests cover filesystem outcomes, errors, and path pins.
JSON locking, confinement, and publishing src/utils/safeWriteJson.ts, src/utils/__tests__/safeWriteJson*.spec.ts, src/eslint-suppressions.json
Checks optional path confinement before and after locking, records target and ancestor pins, and delegates backup and commit to safeWriteText. Tests cover resolution, locking, confinement, cleanup, and durability.
Project-scoped MCP writes pass the provider workspace root or its fallback to safeWriteJson. Global writes leave the scope unset. Tests cover both scopes and fallback behavior.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#2136 — Changes the safeWriteJson replacement protocol, which this PR also updates through locking, resolved-target staging, backup delegation, and durability handling.
Merge Risk: Low · up to ae137
Project MCP configuration writes can lose their workspace confinement when no workspace folder is open, and temporary credential-bearing files are briefly created with default permissions. Both cases are narrow, so the change is mergeable, but the confinement gap should be closed before or soon after merge.
Security Architecture Review
Security architecture risk:🟡 Moderate · up to 5bfb8
The writer improves permission preservation and recovery reporting, but changes both where configuration updates land and what a rejected write means. Project symlinks can redirect updates outside the project, and a post-commit failure can leave saved MCP disable settings inconsistent with active connections. Exposure remains bounded by the extension host’s filesystem permissions; attacker control of deployment paths is not established.
Retained concerns
Medium · security · inferred: Project-scoped MCP updates now publish to an existing symlink’s referent without authorizing that resolved destination against the project scope. At the base, publication replaced the leaf symlink rather than modifying its referent. An actor able to control that link could redirect a user-triggered project update to another existing JSON file whose directory is writable by the extension host. Deployment attacker influence and an intended containment policy remain unproven, so this is a conditional scope-expansion concern.
Medium · security · inferred: A parent-directory fsync failure now rejects JSON publication after the new configuration is visible. When disabling a connected MCP server, that rejection skips the subsequent in-memory disable and disconnection. Configuration watchers suppress programmatic change/create events, and resetting the suppression flag does not itself reconcile configuration. Consequently, the saved disabled state can coexist with an active connection until another refresh, retry, or event. Actual persistence across a crash and watcher-event timing remain filesystem-dependent.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — For the inspected project-MCP path, redirected publication can affect an existing JSON referent outside the workspace when its directory is writable by the extension host. No new operating-system identity or privilege grant is shown. The lifecycle concern affects live MCP connections managed by that host, not a demonstrated cross-tenant or cross-service boundary.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — The conditional redirection path is workspace-controlled leaf symlink, project configuration update, realpath resolution, and referent replacement. The separate revocation failure path is disable request, committed JSON rename, directory-fsync rejection, and skipped live disconnection. Neither path establishes a verified attacker exploit in the supplied deployment context.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Dangling links and non-ENOENT resolution failures are rejected. Supplied staging must be a regular non-symlink file beside the resolved target. These checks do not authorize the referent’s ownership scope. As counterevidence to claiming a new command-execution privilege, existing MCP initialization reads project configuration and enabled stdio configurations supply commands to a subprocess transport.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Existing target mode preservation improves final-file permissions. JSON still streams into a caller-created temporary file before mode correction, so the new private self-staging directory does not protect this route. Staging validation also remains pathname-based across later open and rename operations. These residual conditions predate the delegation class of behavior; deployment exploitability is unresolved. Windows DACL preservation remains explicitly best-effort.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Make resolved-target authorization a caller-owned policy: project-scoped updates could reject out-of-root referents or require explicit authorization for intentional external links. Reconcile live security state after committed-but-not-durable publication rather than treating every rejection as an uncommitted write.

Explanation
PASS. Issue #2018 requires a task-scoped registry with version tokens, completion state, and creation timestamps. ObservationRegistry provides these behaviors, including replacement on re-observation, partial observations with complete: false, lookup, clearing, and instance isolation. Task owns the registry and clears it during disposal. Move retargeting and production call-site wiring remain deferred, as required by #2018.

Explanation
PASS. The confineTo, ancestor-identity, durability, cleanup, and lock-handling changes support the file-write-safety chain described by the PR and the related epic. Their regression tests cover those safety behaviors. No changed feature is demonstrated to be unrelated to the stated file-write-safety work.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
Focused coverage is present for the changed behaviors. The new safeWriteText suite covers staging, backup, cleanup, durability, DACL, path validation, and ancestor checks. observationRegistry, Task, safeWriteJson, and MCP confinement changes also have targeted tests. No durable UI change requires a Playwright snapshot. The prior backup-chmod gap is covered by a test that asserts the original error, no rename, and backup, temp, and staging-directory cleanup. Prior failure addressed: The head adds safeWriteText.spec.ts coverage for rejected backup fs.chmod. It asserts backup chmod failed, no fs.rename, and cleanup calls for the backup, staged file, and staging directory.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
No changed persistence path meets the failure condition. safeWriteJson stages JSON before calling safeWriteText; safeWriteText fsyncs the staged file, commits with rename, and reports post-commit directory-fsync failure without deleting the committed target. Backup creation and cleanup have explicit failure handling, and the target remains present until the commit. The observation registry is in-memory and has no persistence consumer in this unit.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
No changed production lifecycle path leaks a resource or duplicates work. ObservationRegistry is an in-memory Map, and Task.disposeOnce() clears it. The changed file-safety code closes opened descriptors, removes staging and backup artifacts, and releases the safeWriteJson lock in finally. The MCP changes only pass confinement options and do not add listeners, watchers, timers, or providers.
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
The changed project-scoped MCP write path still permits an allowlist bypass. McpHub.ts passes the workspace as confineTo for project configuration writes, and safeWriteJson.ts pins ancestor identities. However, safeWriteText.ts performs a path-based fs.rename(tempPath, targetPath) after the final checks. If an attacker replaces an authorized ancestor with a link during that final window, the rename can publish the staged MCP configuration outside the workspace. MCP configuration can contain server environment values and headers, so this is a credential-bearing boundary.
Resolution
Use a handle-relative, no-follow publication primitive for confined writes. Verify the intended directory handles, then rename relative to the verified handle. If the runtime cannot provide this operation, fail closed for confined project writes. Add an integration test that swaps an ancestor during the final publication window and verifies that no outside file is created or modified.

The available evidence does not show the implementations of safeWriteJson or _saveDaclWindows, or the PR-base version of safeWriteJson. It therefore does not establish that every Windows JSON write launches two icacls processes, that the PR introduced this cost, or that the proposed opt-in change is safe.
…ve (U1, issue 1375)
Split unit U1 of PR 1833. Three changes, each with a test that fails without it:
- a caller-supplied staging path is checked for location and file type before anything is written, so an arbitrary path or a symlink cannot be published onto the target;
- a failed parent-directory fsync on POSIX is reported as PostCommitDurabilityError instead of being swallowed, so a successful return never claims durability the filesystem did not grant;
- the staged file and this write's own staging directory are released before RollbackFailureError is thrown.
Focused coverage for resolveLockKey added: canonical parent directory, a dangling-link chain, and termination at the bounded depth on a two-link cycle.
…ishTarget (U1, issue 1375)
The resolver may fall back to the given path only when lstat also reports the path as absent. An EACCES or EIO failure says nothing about whether the path is a link, so falling back would publish through a link we were not allowed to inspect. Focused tests added for both branches.
The three findings here are the same class as the ones on #1910 and are closed in the commit that owns safeWriteText.ts (c4120b057, which is an ancestor of this head):
Persistence integrity — the POSIX parent-directory fsync no longer swallows errors; a failure throws PostCommitDurabilityError, which names the target and states that the content is committed but the directory entry may not be durable.
Regression evidence — focused coverage added: realpath rejects with ENOENT and lstat rejects with EACCES, asserting the lstat error propagates instead of falling back to the link path; plus the ENOENT-on-both case that still falls back.
Lifecycle resource cleanup — the staged file and this write's own staging directory are released before RollbackFailureError is thrown, and the backup is preserved.
50 tests pass at this head; the new lstat test was verified to fail against the pre-fix file.
Re-requesting review needs a human — this token gets 404 on POST /pulls/1912/requested_reviewers for a fork PR, so the Reviews panel has to be used.
… type-sound
compile failed at the unit head on three points:
- RollbackFailureError needs a string backupPath, but the throw now happens after cleanup, so the
`string | null` narrowing was lost. The failure is now held as { error, backupPath }.
- The async lstat stand-in is built on the Stats prototype so it satisfies fsSync.Stats.
- The realpath/readlink mocks are typed to the real signatures; the readlink mock answers once
because only the link path is read.
tsc clean, 50 tests pass, ESLint --max-warnings=0 clean, no suppression change.
The read tools record the observed on-disk version through task.observationRegistry, but the field
was only declared in a later unit, so at this head the call dereferences undefined and the mocked
e2e run fails on the read_file smoke tests. The registry is introduced by this unit, so the field
belongs here.
tsc clean on this unit, 11 observationRegistry tests pass, ESLint --max-warnings=0 clean.

Security Boundaries — disposition and sequencing (transparency note)
The blocked finding on this PR belongs to a family of check-to-rename TOCTOU issues: a target is validated by path, then safeWriteText re-resolves the path and commits with fs.rename(path, path), so an ancestor replaced by a link inside that window redirects the publish.
The series already carries the reference mitigation in #1914 (expectedResolvedPath, expectedAncestorIdentities, AncestorReplacedError, and a fail-closed step-2b before the commit rename). #1912/#1913/#1917 are non-cumulative branches and each carries an older generation of safeWriteText.ts, so that mechanism is absent here (0 hits).
Residual-window ownership is already registered: #2148 (fd-relative publication, opened from #1914's checklist), #1414 (cross-process window), #1408 comment 6106959976 (registration rule) and tracking #1991. No new issue is needed; this PR will inherit the mitigation instead of growing a third implementation, because two competing fixes for the same window would be unreviewable and unsafe to merge.
Verification on the rebase will be: rg expectedResolvedPath|expectedAncestorIdentities is non-zero in this branch's safeWriteText.ts/guardedWrite.ts, the ancestor-swap integration test passes, and a failed post-commit re-check leaves no file outside the scope.
This PR's action (owner of the introduction):#1912 first introduced confineTo/the MCP project writes, so it is the earliest branch that can carry the fix. Planned: port #1914's pinning into this branch's safeWriteText (options + AncestorReplacedError + step-2b) and build ancestorIdentities from the resolved confineTo scope root in safeWriteJson, with integration tests for ancestor-swap (fail closed, no file outside the scope, lock released). That work is tracked here; it is not being duplicated in the sibling units.
safeWriteJson with confineTo validates the resolved publish target twice (before the
lock and again under it), then hands the resolved path to safeWriteText, which resolves
it again and commits with a rename. An ancestor directory replaced by a link in that
window redirected the publish outside the allowlist even though the target name itself
was unchanged.
Inherit the mitigation that already exists in the guarded-write core
(fws/u5-guard-core, Zoo-Code-Org#1914):
- safeWriteText gains expectedResolvedPath (a publish target that resolves differently
from the value the caller authorized fails with TargetMovedError) and
expectedAncestorIdentities (each directory on the authorized path, pinned by name and
dev/ino).
- A fail-closed step 2b immediately before the commit rename re-stats every pinned
directory with bigint stats and throws AncestorReplacedError when an identity changed
or the name vanished. It also requires the authorized name to still resolve to the
location it named: a move preserves dev/ino, and a link left at the old name keeps
stat() matching while sending the rename to the moved location.
- safeWriteJson's in-lock confineTo check now records that pin - the resolved target plus
the identity of every directory from the canonical scope root down to the target's
parent (components that do not exist yet are skipped) - and passes it to safeWriteText.
Residual: the window between step 2b and the rename itself. Publication is path based,
so a swap landing there still redirects the publish; closing it needs fd-relative
publication (openat/renameat), which is registered in Zoo-Code-Org#2148, Zoo-Code-Org#1414, Zoo-Code-Org#1408 and Zoo-Code-Org#1991.
Tests: unit coverage for both pins in safeWriteText.spec.ts, real-filesystem coverage in
safeWriteText.integration.spec.ts, and the two residual-window contract tests in
safeWriteJson.test.ts now assert the fail-closed outcomes (AncestorReplacedError,
TargetMovedError) instead of the escaped publish.

Ancestor pin ported from #1914 (Security Boundaries)
The blocked Security Boundaries finding is now addressed in this PR by porting the series' reference mitigation instead of letting another unit grow a competing one.
What landed (b41213f19, 5 files, +554/−53):
safeWriteText.ts: SafeWriteTextOptions.expectedResolvedPath (mismatch → TargetMovedError), AncestorIdentity/expectedAncestorIdentities, AncestorReplacedError, and a fail-closed step-2b immediately before the commit phase that re-stats every pinned directory (bigint dev/ino + a realpath check) and refuses the publish when an ancestor was replaced.
safeWriteJson.ts: at the in-lock confineTo check it resolves the canonical scope root, builds the pin chain from that root down to the target's parent, and threads expectedResolvedPath + expectedAncestorIdentities into the safeWriteText call. MCP project writes go through the same path and inherit the pin.
Tests: unit coverage (pin match, target-moved, replaced dir, moved+link-back with identical dev/ino, dangling link, ENOENT, transient EACCES) and real-filesystem coverage (rename+recreate → AncestorReplacedError with .directory, nothing published into either directory, no staging residue; junction/symlink move-back; normal confined publish). The two old residual-window tests in safeWriteJson.test.ts that asserted the escape now assert fail-closed.
Verification: touched suites 3 files / 126 passed (+5 skipped); with adjacent suites (lockKey, McpHub ×2, cache-manager, FileContextTracker) 8 files / 221 passed; prettier blob OK on all changed files. Local eslint/tsc were not runnable in this worktree (borrowed node_modules) — required CI is the authority and is green on b41213f19.
Staging stays path-based: the .new_*.tmp file is created through a swapped ancestor and removed by the failure cleanup (verified empty afterwards) — a transient outside-scope artifact, not a publish.
The pin chain is derived from the canonical scope root while this branch's resolvePublishTarget returns a lexical path for a not-yet-existing target; both sides use the value safeWriteJson itself derived, so they agree today. If u5's canonicalization is later ported into this branch, the pin derivation must change in lockstep.
…observation registry on dispose
Two pre-merge warnings on Zoo-Code-Org#1912:
- Regression Evidence: safeWriteText's parent-directory creation and access failures are now covered - each propagates its original error and nothing is staged or renamed (no publish).
- Lifecycle Resource Cleanup: the task-owned ObservationRegistry is cleared in Task#disposeOnce so its per-path Map cannot outlive the task; a disposal test asserts the entry is gone after dispose.
The Security Boundaries error (handle-relative/no-follow publication) is the series' registered residual window: the Zoo-Code-Org#1914 pinning port in this branch narrows it, and the descriptor-relative primitive is tracked in Zoo-Code-Org#2148 / Zoo-Code-Org#1414 / Zoo-Code-Org#1991.
Local evidence: safeWriteText suite 86 passed (including the two new directory-failure tests). Task.spec cannot load in this borrowed-node_modules worktree (missing @ai-sdk/openai-compatible) - CI is the authority for that suite.
Regression Evidence: safeWriteText's parent-directory fs.mkdir and fs.access failures are now covered — each propagates its original error and nothing is staged or renamed (no publish). safeWriteText suite 86 passed locally.
Lifecycle Resource Cleanup: the task-owned ObservationRegistry is cleared in Task#disposeOnce(), and a disposal test asserts the per-path entry is gone after dispose. (Task.spec.ts cannot load in this borrowed-node_modules worktree — missing @ai-sdk/openai-compatible — so CI is the authority for that suite.)
Security Boundaries remains the series' registered residual window: the pinning port in this branch narrows it (verified by the new ancestor-swap tests), and the descriptor-relative primitive is tracked in #2148 / #1414 / #1991. No second implementation is added here.

Pre-merge warning on Zoo-Code-Org#1912: the backup setup awaits fs.chmod(backupPath, 0o600) and the failure enters the cleanup path without focused coverage. The new test rejects that chmod and asserts the original error propagates and no commit rename runs (nothing published). safeWriteText suite 87 passed.
The pre-merge warning asked for the cleanup assertions, not just error propagation: the partial backup is unlinked (retried once), the never-committed staged file is unlinked, and this write own staging directory is released. The test now asserts all three plus that no commit rename runs.

Review follow-ups: confineForMcpWrite treats an empty provider cwd/getWorkspacePath as no boundary and throws instead of returning undefined, so a project MCP write cannot proceed unbounded; added a regression test that the write never reaches safeWriteJson. The staging-directory cleanup test now asserts fs.rmdir on the exact directory recorded by fsSync.mkdirSync rather than a path prefix. Existing watcher-cleanup test supplies a workspace root for its project-config write. McpHub + safeWriteText specs 179 passed.
fix(skills): report YAML frontmatter parse errors and serialize SKILL.md safely #1321 — realpath failure in updateSkillModes: the resolution error now propagates instead of falling back to the discovered path; a resolution failure cannot write through a symlink (or replace it with a regular file). Added a test where discovery succeeds but the publish-time resolution fails: exact error propagates, no write/rename. SkillsManager.spec.ts 117 passed.
feat(file-safety): atomic text publish primitive + safeWriteJson refactor (A4, #1375) #1395 — lock contention + committed-cache warning: the alias/referent lock test asserts the ELOCKED failure kind and releases both the holder and, if it ever acquired, the contending lock from a finally block. The committed-clear cache test keeps the PublishNotDurableError instance and asserts the exact warning text + instance. fileLock + cache-manager 15 passed.
ci: surface the changed-code mutation report as a job summary and a named artifact #2149 — summary rename-failure test: uses an existing regular file (so the initial read succeeds and the write reaches rename), stubs fs.renameSync to fail once, asserts rename ran once, the EIO warning, temp-file removal, and that the existing summary is untouched. node --test scripts/mutation-summary.test.mjs passes.
feat(task): observation registry with read completeness (U3, #1375) #1912 — no-workspace fail-closed + exact staging dir: confineForMcpWrite throws when neither provider cwd nor getWorkspacePath() supplies a root, so a project write cannot proceed unbounded (regression test asserts safeWriteJson is never called); the backup-chmod test asserts fs.rmdir on the exact staging directory recorded by fsSync.mkdirSync. McpHub + safeWriteText 179 passed.
refactor(providers): map xAI tool_choice to the Responses API shape with a typed request body #2036 — abort listener leak on construction failure: the abort bridge now registers after the whole request body (including mapToolChoice) is built, so a malformed allowed_tools entry cannot leave a listener on metadata.abortSignal; the malformed-entry test asserts addEventListener was never called. xai.spec.ts 49 passed.
getWorkspacePath is typed to return string; the failing-case mock returns the empty string (still falsy for the fail-closed check) so check-types accepts it.

Description
What this PR changes:
completeflag) is introduced with the move call site in the consuming unit, which carries its own behaviour tests.safeWriteJsonwrites confine to a caller-supplied root (confineTo), so a project that ships.roo/mcp.jsonas a symlink to a file outside the workspace gets the write refused instead of replacing the outside file.Deliberately not wired yet: the registry is not connected to production read, move, or guarded-write call sites here - those call sites are introduced by the units after this one, each with its own behaviour tests. The tests here exercise the registry's own contract.
Why the diff looks bigger than the change: the chain is non-cumulative - this branch is based on
mainand carries its own copy of the earlier units' content, which the GitHub diff shows as context.Review focus:

From the repository root, with dependencies installed:
Manual check: point a project at a repo that ships
.roo/mcp.jsonas a symlink to a file outside the workspace, edit a project MCP setting, and confirm the write is refused instead of replacing the outside file (the win32 symlink case is skipped in the unit test and verified this way).Environment: Ubuntu 22.04 and Windows 11; unit layer only.

Post-commit durability tracking (032678d)
The Persistence Integrity row implemented at this head:
safeWriteJsonclears the staged path whensafeWriteTextreportsPostCommitDurabilityError(the commit rename consumed it - it is the published target's former name), so the catch cleanup never unlinks a path this write no longer owns; the durability error rethrows and the target keeps its new content. Regression test: parent-directory fsync fails after the commit rename - target stays present with the new JSON, no unlink fires at the consumed staging path. Negative control: removing the guard reddens exactly that test. 114/119 with the file-safety suites (5 pre-existing skips). The Security Boundaries row remains the registered handle-relative family (owner-unit fix, precedent 6106959976).CI/review round final head (6aed302)
Refreshed onto main
4f1dee18e(merge2525fc218, no conflicts; lint-gate commit drops imports main's side orphaned and re-adds thesafeWriteJsonimport the merged McpHub.spec mocks need). CodeRabbit's two new threads are fixed and resolved at6aed30221: the injected fsync failure now targets a real directory descriptor with the wrapper'scauseasserted, and the staging-release assertions compare the exact directory path. All six required checks green at6aed30221.Review round final head (41832ac)
The durability probe was reworked for portability (
6953d6bcb): the injected fsync failure is triggered by watching the commit rename itself - the parent-directory fsync is the only fsync that runs after it - so the SUT opens and closes its own real directory handle and no descriptor is fabricated; the cause assertion is unchanged.41832aca5ports the resolveLockKey ENOENT-only fallback fix and the finally-block spy restoration from U2. All six required checks green.
