feat(status-pages): JSON view and atomic JSON apply for the editor, API and MCP - #1944
A component with an id (stc_…) updates that component.
A component without an id is created.
A component left out of the list is deleted.
Array order is display order.
Monitors are referenced by upm_….
components is required, so leaving it out can't silently delete every component. Other omitted fields take their defaults.
Incidents, the break-glass token and publish state are not part of the document.
Apply is all or nothing.StatusPagesService.applyConfig validates everything before it writes, then applies it in one transaction with one revision bump. A slug rename queues the old slug for edge cleanup. Any error rejects the whole document, with a path such as components[2].name and public ids in the message.
Surfaces
API v2:GET and PUT /v2/status_pages/{id}/config. Applying is admin-only and audited.
MCP:
get_status_page_config returns the document as a json block.
apply_status_page_config is marked destructive and is admin-only. It summarises the components created, updated and deleted, and the fields changed.
Editor: a new JSON tab.
Everyone sees the read view with Copy.
Admins can edit:
the draft is validated as they type, with the line and column of a syntax error or the path of a schema error;
a summary of the changes appears before applying;
Apply and Reset buttons.
Apply is disabled while the draft is invalid, while it changes nothing, or while the Settings tab has unsaved edits.
Shared diff:diffStatusPageConfig drives the audit entry, the MCP summary and the editor preview, so all three describe a change the same way.

Tests
Backend service: 17. The 6 new ones cover the full replace, a foreign or other-page id rejected with nothing changed, duplicate ids, a monitor from another org, the slug cleanup, contrast, and exactly one bump.
API routes: 12. The 4 new ones cover the round trip, an apply with changes, 400s, a cross-org 404, and a member refused.
MCP: 19, including the registry contract.
Web status pages: 50. The 10 new JSON-tab scene tests cover the read view, invalid JSON, schema paths, the change summary, a single PUT, and the read-only view for members.
Domain: config schema and OpenAPI tests.
Static checks: typecheck is clean for domain, backend, api, ai, web and the alchemy stack. oxlint and oxfmt are clean, the iOS spec is unchanged, and knip adds nothing.
Known gaps
The browser doesn't check theme contrast for JSON drafts; the server rejects an unreadable theme on Apply and the error shows inline.
A cross-org PUT with an invalid body returns 400 rather than 404.
Added a JSON editor for status-page configurations. Admins can view and copy a configuration, edit and validate a draft, review a change summary, and apply page settings and components together.
Added API and AI-tool support for reading and applying complete configurations. Updates are atomic, and stale edits are rejected so they can be reviewed before retrying.
Bug Fixes
Configuration validation rejects unknown or duplicate component IDs and documents with more than 200 components.
Documentation
Documented the configuration endpoints, validation rules, component limit, and version checks.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The PR adds a whole-page status-page configuration document. It exposes read and atomic apply operations through the API and MCP tools, and adds a web JSON editor that can load, edit, validate, and apply the document.

Summary
Configuration contract and diff packages/domain/src/http/v2/status-pages.ts, packages/domain/src/http/status-pages.ts, packages/domain/src/http/v2/status-page-config.test.ts, packages/domain/src/http/v2/openapi.test.ts
Defines the config schema, normalization, versioning, diffing, conflict handling, and GET/PUT route contracts. Tests cover diffing, versioning, and route registration.
Reads and applies page configuration under a page lock. It validates input, enforces component limits, computes change sets, and covers version conflicts and rejected writes.
Adds config reads and applies to HTTP and MCP, including admin checks, audit records for changes, approval gating, and unknown-key validation. Documentation and tests cover the config interface.
Adds the JSON tab, change summaries, draft controls, and apply-state behavior. It coordinates Settings edits with config apply and handles conflicts by retaining and rebasing the draft.

High: the JSON tab could delete components past the 100th. It built its document from the paged components list. It now loads GET /config, which reads every component, and diffs against that.
Concurrency:
applyConfig locks the page row first, and so does component create, update, delete and reorder.
GET /config returns a version, a content hash of the normalized config. PUT ?if_version= answers 409 when the config has changed since it was read. The web tab and the MCP tool send it.
The hash is of the config, not the page revision, so a monitor flip or a publish between read and apply is no conflict; a rename by someone else is.
The change summary is now what was actually written.applyConfig returns the changes it computed from the locked rows and the normalized values. The audit entry and the MCP render use those, and the web preview normalizes the same way. Re-sending " API " or an uppercase hex reports "Nothing changed".
Unknown keys are rejected: REST through onExcessProperty: "error" (400 with param: components[0].show_uptim), MCP through rejectUnknownKeys.
Web: an apply no longer wipes concurrent edits. Typing and Settings saves are blocked while an apply runs, and Settings edits are kept unless they match the old or the new page.
Limits and refreshes:
A page holds at most 200 components; apply and create both enforce it.
Incidents are re-read after an apply.
The MCP apply now writes a status_page.config_applied audit entry.

F3 fixed in 5997cfb: the JSON draft scanner walks array and object members in a loop (a 20,000-item array no longer deepens the stack) and stops at 64 levels of nesting with "Nested too deeply". New config-json.test.ts covers both; both tests fail on the previous scanner.
Preview test: JSON tab, API and MCP on the live preview
This ran on the preview:web deploy of 5560597, driven by a separate agent that had no context from this work. It used the dashboard through headless Playwright, the v2 API, and the preview's MCP endpoint with a temporary API key.
#
Step
Result
1
Create a page with three components and publish it
PASS
2
JSON tab read view and Copy
PASS. Identical to the GET /config body except version, which the tab leaves out
3
In the editor, rename Docs, add a component, delete Dashboard and move API last, then apply and publish
PASS. The summary was right, one PUT ?if_version= returned 200, and the API, the Components tab and the public page all show the new set in order
PASS. Line and column for the syntax error; components[1].show_uptim for the unknown key; Apply disabled for the unchanged document and while Settings has unsaved edits
5
Stale if_version after a concurrent rename
PASS. 409 status_page_conflict, nothing written, and the editor shows the conflict
6
Publish between read and apply
PASS. The publish left the config version unchanged, and the apply returned 200
7
One valid change plus a component id from another page or a malformed one
PASS. 400 and nothing applied
8
Typo keys, 201 components, duplicate ids, a bad slug
PASS. 400 with param, and the config was unchanged afterwards. Not run: the member-refusal check
9
MCP get_status_page_config and apply_status_page_config
PASS. Apply reported the components it updated; re-applying reported "Nothing changed"; a stale version and an unknown key were refused
Fixed after the run: re-applying an unchanged document still bumped the page revision and wrote an audit entry with every count at 0. It now does neither (3229639), and both the service test and the route test now expect no bump.
Fixed after the run: the restack rewrote migrations this preview had already applied, so the redeploy was refused. The preview is being rebuilt on a fresh database branch.
By design: components with a group render under their group heading on the public page, so array order applies within each group.
…ervice
StatusPageConfig describes a page's settings, theme and components as one
document. applyConfig replaces the page in one transaction with one revision
bump: listed ids update, new entries are created, missing ones are deleted,
order sets position. getConfig reads it back.
The page as its config document to copy. Admins edit it in place: the draft
is parsed and decoded as they type, with the line and column of a syntax
error or the path of a schema error, a summary of what will change, and
Apply blocked while the Settings tab has unsaved edits.
…unknown keys and reports its own changes
applyConfig locks the page row before reading components (component writes take the same
lock), refuses a stale if_revision with a 409 StatusPageConflictError, caps a page at 200
components (createComponent too), and returns the change set computed from the rows it read
and the normalized values it wrote. normalizeStatusPageConfig now trims, nulls blank text and
lower-cases hex, so padding or case is no change. GET /config carries the revision.
PUT /config decodes its payload with onExcessProperty "error"; MCP tools can opt into the same
with rejectUnknownKeys. apply_status_page_config sends the document's revision, maps the
conflict to a typed error telling the model to re-read, renders the service's changes, and
writes a status_page.config_applied audit entry.
The tab's document came from the components list, which stops at 100, so Apply deleted the
rest. It now loads its own keyed config read (loading and error states like the other tabs,
re-read when the tab opens) and sends if_revision; a conflict re-reads the config. Typing is
ignored and the editor disabled while an apply runs, Settings cannot save meanwhile, Settings
edits typed during the apply survive it, and incidents re-read after it.
…page revision
Monitor flips, reconciles and publishes bump the page revision, so an if_revision apply would
409 through every outage. GET /config now carries `version`, a cyrb53 hash of the normalized,
canonically serialized document (statusPageConfigVersion, sync and identical in browser,
workerd and Node). PUT /config?if_version= compares it, under the page lock, with the version of
the config built from the locked rows, and answers 409 StatusPageConflictError only when the
document's content changed. MCP apply defaults if_version to the document's version; the web
tab sends the version from its config read.
🟢 Confidence 8/10 · likely safe to merge. Held at 8 because earlier reviews of this pull request found 7 defects. 1 note · tests covered · risk low · 7 defects fixed in earlier rounds
Re-review of the two files changed since dc86c10: the rebase after a JSON apply conflict now clears jsonFailure and Apply uses the shared change predicate. Both are correct and tested, so the change is safe to merge; the draftOf finding from the earlier review is still open. The PR touches apps/ai/src/mcp/tools/registry.ts but does not address the open McpQueryError issues there: that diff only threads onExcessProperty parse options for rejectUnknownKeys tools.
rebaseJsonDraft clears jsonFailure, so the conflict banner leaves with the rebased draft
hasChanges now delegates to hasStatusPageConfigChanges shared with the service

@maple-review-bot F8 is fixed in 9788200: hasChanges in update-json.ts now calls hasStatusPageConfigChanges(changes) from @maple/domain/http/v2, the predicate the API route and MCP tool use, so the hand copy is gone. The McpQueryError issues in registry.ts predate this PR; it only threads parse options there.
update-json.ts:41-45 now defers to hasStatusPageConfigChanges(changes), and the commit diff shows the five-part hand copy removed. The shared predicate (packages/domain/src/http/v2/status-pages.ts:615-617, fields + created + updated + deleted > 0 || reordered) is exactly the expression that was inlined, so behaviour is unchanged, not just relocated.
Same predicate is what the API PUT uses (apps/api/src/routes/v2/status-pages.http.ts:359), the MCP apply tool uses (apps/ai/src/mcp/tools/status-pages.ts:666) and StatusPagesService.ts:1539 uses, so the editor can no longer drift from the server on what counts as a no-op.
Covered: editor.scene.test.ts:829 ("a draft that differs only by spacing or colour case is no change") exercises the no-change path and asserts Apply stays disabled, alongside the enabled case at :672.
On registry.ts: you're right, and my earlier sentence overstated it. McpQueryError does not appear in registry.ts at the head SHA at all — the error mapping lives in lib/map-warehouse-error.ts, lib/source-errors.ts, dispatcher.ts and friends. The diff here only adds parseOptions: { onExcessProperty: … } to the catalog entry and threads it through the three Schema.decodeUnknown* call sites, so nothing about error classification changes. Any McpQueryError concern belongs in its own PR, not this one.
The separate draftOf finding (anchored at what was line 36 in the base, now line 36 of the new file) stays open: canApply and applyJson both call it, so one Apply click parses the whole document twice on top of the parse the view already does.

Customer status pages, 7/7: JSON view and atomic JSON apply (agent friendly)
A status page's config (settings, theme, components) is now one JSON document. People and agents can read it and apply it as a whole.
Document (
StatusPageConfig, snake_case like the rest of v2)name,slug,description,website_url,logo_url,show_powered_by,auto_incidents,theme.components: an ordered array.id(stc_…) updates that component.idis created.upm_….componentsis required, so leaving it out can't silently delete every component. Other omitted fields take their defaults.Apply is all or nothing.
StatusPagesService.applyConfigvalidates everything before it writes, then applies it in one transaction with one revision bump. A slug rename queues the old slug for edge cleanup. Any error rejects the whole document, with a path such ascomponents[2].nameand public ids in the message.Surfaces

It summarises the components created, updated and deleted, and the fields changed.diffStatusPageConfigdrives the audit entry, the MCP summary and the editor preview, so all three describe a change the same way.Tests
